Job Description:
There will be two classes on Sunday, one with under 10 students in elementary school, and one with under 10 students around middle school/late elementary age. Each class is 90 minutes with a 10-minute break in between. Puzzles and lessons usually incorporate the first half, and the students play games with each other the second half. You will be the main teacher, and will have a TA to help you in the classroom. You have autonomy to choose what to teach, but I have already taught for 9 years, and have previous syllabuses and material you can use.
The schedule follows the Madison school district calendar, so there will be no classes on holidays such as Easter Sunday etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- USCF rating 1500 or equivalent (Lichess ~1900). Students in the later class can get up to 1200 USCF.
- Car for transportation
- Some experience in tutoring or teaching is highly preferred.
- Ability to coordination 10 10 year olds, and watch out for their safety, as well as their learning.
- You will have to talk with parents, so professionalism experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- USCF rating 1700 or equivalent
- Experience tutoring or teaching to elementary grade students.
- Ability to coordinate the students for scholastic tournaments, and being their to coach is highly preferred. You will get paid bonus for time at the tournament.
