Dean of Education manages administrative functions of the college of education. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Education leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Education requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Education manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Education typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     About The Role of Vice Provost
    The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Education reports directly to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
    Essential functions of the position consist of:
    Oversight of the University of South Carolina undergraduate academic experience including:
    • The Carolina Core, the university’s general education program

    • The University Advising Center and the four-year advising initiative

    • Center for Integrated and Experiential Learning (CIEL), including Graduation with Leadership Distinction.

    • Living-learning Communities with faculty principals

    • Graduation and Retention Network (GARNET)

    • SACSCOC and CHE Accreditation and Compliance


    Required Education and Experience
    Required Qualifications
    • Be a professor and scholar of proven excellence with a record of academic accomplishment appropriate for appointment at the rank of full professor.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and innovation in undergraduate education, possess the ability to inspire and lead faculty, staff, and students, at a large public research university that values the quality of the undergraduate student experience.
    • Demonstrate a successful record of experience with integrated learning programs that leverage for the benefit of students many beyond-the-classroom experiences such as service learning, internships, living/learning communities, and other student engagements.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to academic advising initiatives.
    • Demonstrate a successful record of experience collaborating with student affairs and academic support units.
    • Possess interest in enhancing the undergraduate curriculum.
    • Demonstrate a successful record of experience with curriculum development and approval processes; experience with accreditation review preferred.
    • Demonstrate strong commitment to access and opportunity for all students.
    • Possess three or more years of administrative experience and leading positive change at the department, college, or university level.
