    Job Description:

    Function of Position:

    The Dean of Career Technical Education (CTE) reports to and collaborates with the Vice President of Economic and Workforce Development and Career Technical Education. The Dean provides collaborative leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for faculty, staff, students, and advisory boards, as well as oversight of operations at the Applied Technologies Center. Through the lens of student success, the Dean is committed to excellence, innovation, and efficiency in serving a diverse student body supported by diverse faculty and staff. CTE includes 16 A.A.S. degrees, 4 A.S. degrees, and 17 Certificate program options within the following categories: Applied Technologies, Engineering Technologies, Hospitality Management, and Information and Computer Technologies.


    Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Plans, budgets, and evaluates all activities that originate from CTE and ensures that all activities are in accordance with the policies of the College and align to the College's strategic plan.
    • Establishes and maintains identified FTE targets within the 16 A.A.S. degrees, 4 A.S. degrees, and 17 Certificate program options within CTE, effectively allocating personnel and budget resources.
    • Works toward alignment with non-credit programing and career laddering opportunities within CTE by assisting in the exploration and creation of new career pathways that bridge non-credit skill training to college credit programming.
    • Coordinates with the Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center (FWD Center) and the Economic and Workforce Development Center, which develop and manage non-credit workforce initiatives and broker credit courses to the community.
    • Supervises and evaluates department chairpersons and dean's office personnel.
    • Collaborates with the EDIWS division leadership team and participates in developing and implementing the policies and goals of the College as well as the operational and performance goals of the EDIWS division.
    • Collaborates with college deans to promote student success and build strong cross-divisional relationships.
    • Provides guidance and leadership to CTE departments in a community with rapidly changing workforce needs.
    • Works with departments, the Vice President, Economic and Workforce Development and Career Technical Education, business and industry in cooperation with the divisional non-credit program teams, the College Curriculum Office, and program review to develop, revise, and evaluate programs and support the creation of new and innovative career pathway models.
    • Oversees the development of departmental policies, procedures, and criteria governing the appraisal of professional performance. Reviews departmental appraisals and makes independent recommendations to the Vice President, Economic and Workforce Development and Career Technical Education on matters of faculty evaluation and accountability, retention, professional growth, tenure, and promotion.
    • Provides guidance, direction, and experience with grant writing and facilitates grant activities for CTE.
    • Supports student engagement and serves in the appeal process for CTE student complaints. Functions as a mediator, when necessary, in resolving student disputes.
    • Provides advocacy for CTE students in coordinating opportunities for scholarships, award nominations, and student recognition.
    • Promotes and administers the professional development efforts of departments, staff, and individual faculty members. Directs and assists departments in orienting new faculty and department chairpersons.
    • Strategizes and collaborates with the EDIWS leadership, divisional non-credit program leaders, CTE chairpersons, and Academic and Student Affairs to successfully plan and facilitate the transition of students from pre-college to college-level coursework.
    • Facilitates the exchange of information between the departments, divisions, and various administrative offices of the College.
    • Establishes and maintains relationships with advisory committees and accrediting agencies. Ensures compliance with third party state and/or federal agencies for all Career Technical Education programs including, but not limited to: ASE, ACCA, EPA, ICE, NATE, NATEF, and NIMS.
    • Participates in EDIWS division planning and strategy meetings.
    • Additional duties as assigned by the Vice President, Economic and Workforce Development and Career Technical Education

    Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master's Degree in a technical field, business administration, higher education, adult education, or related field from an accredited institution.
    • Four years' work experience in higher education including a minimum of three years of experience as a college teacher or comparable experience within education and a business or industry.
    • Evidence of administrative experience and leadership in areas including supervision, curriculum development, budget planning, grants, evaluation, and communication.
    • Demonstrated commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on a campus dedicated to promoting diversity, equity and belonging.
    • Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.
    • Evidence of effective interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, team building, and mediation skills.
    • Evidence of leadership capabilities and commitment to continued professional growth.
    • Evidence of a mastery of the basic skills required in curriculum development and evaluation.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
    • Experience working in Career Technical Education.
    • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.


    Additional Information:

    Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position starts at $98,710 and may increase depending on the mentioned factors.
