Dean of Education jobs in Montana

Dean of Education manages administrative functions of the college of education. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Education leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Education requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Education manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Education typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. The College collaborates with tribal communities to address education and health disparities. College programs include, for example, helping soldiers serve their country again as teachers, helping grandparents get support as they face challenges in raising their grandchildren, providing strength training to rural women, and educating rural youth for obesity prevention.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Reporting to the Provost, the Dean is the senior academic and administrative officer of the College. The Dean is responsible for a range of activities including, but not limited to:
    • Setting strategic, operational, and financial directions for the College.
    • Managing the College’s human, fiscal and physical resources.
    • Maintaining an effective collegial environment to support excellence in teaching, research, and outreach.
    • Representing the College at the state and national levels to external constituents, including the Montana state legislature.
    • Partnering with the University’s foundation to grow resources for the College and its endowment.
    • Working closely with leaders of the business and educational communities to develop the necessary relationships to create opportunities for student career development.
    • Leading and representing the College at the University level.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
    • A terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education in one of the disciplines or professions of the College.
    • Evidence of teaching, research, and outreach that will merit a tenured faculty appointment, preferable at the rank of professor.
    • A successful record in academic administration.
    • Experience in budget management, personnel management, and strategic planning is expected.

    • Evidence of experience working across different disciplines and departments on a university campus.
    • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and fostering an inclusive environment.
