Dean of Communications manages administrative functions of the college of communications. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Communications leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Communications requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Communications manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Communications typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • Job Purpose:

    This team member will supervise and lead all academic operations for our northern division institutions including West Virginia Junior College- Morgantown, United Career Institute, and East Ohio College. This role includes but is not limited to management of academic effectiveness, adherence to standards of accreditation (ABHES) and achievement of overall curricular quality for our allied health programs, business programs, and information technology programs. This person will manage all academic programs with the Program Director and provide leadership and oversight in the following areas: hiring, supervision, retention of faculty.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Bachelor's Degree from a program accredited by an agency recognized by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation.
    • Some educational methodology experience.
    • Teaching experience
    • Management/supervisory experience
    • Strong computer skills
    • Problem solving and critical thinking skills

    Preferred:

    • Master's Degree from a program accredited by an agency recognized by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation.
    • A degree in education
    • Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) knowledge and background

    Responsibilities:

    General and Supervisory

    • Hire and work with faculty on a continuous basis to train, orient, evaluate and re-train and to facilitate their professional growth and development. Release faculty who do not achieve the goals of a dynamic and engaging academic environment.
    • Create and promote a dynamic and engaging academic environment utilizing a combination of resources, including but not limited to faculty, student and community.
    • Assist the Campus President as directed by the Campus President in the purchase and maintenance of all equipment, books and facilities.
    • Actively promote the Institution in the community as a public relations spokesperson.
    • Promote the institution’s brand within the community by attending, joining or seeking appointment to the boards of community based organizations.
    • Provide academic and personal advising to students, as needed.
    • Promote student morale and create within the institution an atmosphere of “teamwork” and “success” among faculty, students, and staff.
    • Maintain accurate, legible, and up-to-date records of the activities associated with carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
    • Maintain current, effective and compliance curriculum and syllabi across educational programs
    • Collaborate with the Instructional Design and Technology department
    • Conduct and document faculty and other meetings required to meet objectives of the programs
    • Maintain an active and effective Program Advisory Board
    • Oversee and participate in professional development and in-service activities
    • Supervise and maintain an effective, and current Program Effectiveness Plans (PEPs)
    • Maintain the highest level of ethical and professional standard, including keeping apprised of and abiding by all institutional policies and procedures, accreditation standards, and state and federal laws, rules and regulations as pertains to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
    • Teach classes as needed
    • Create academic schedule in coordination with Campus President

    Retention: Meet or exceed program retention standards as set forth by the institution through:

    • Curriculum maintenance and enhancement
    • Effective relationship building
    • Leading retention meetings

    Externships: Effectively manage program externships through:

    • Assisting with establishing and maintaining externship sites

    • Setting expectations for, monitoring, and evaluating students on externship experience.
    • Leading externship progress meetings
