Black Hills State University (BHSU)’s School of Education (SoE) serves as a premier educator preparation program in the state of South Dakota and is seeking an innovative Dean to join our efforts. The Dean will provide leadership in recruitment and retention efforts, budget management, long-range academic planning, fundraising, grant development, school partnerships, and research and maintenance of high academic standards. The Dean will report to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The Dean will work closely with the SoE Assessment Director, Field Experience Director, and SoE Department Chair to maintain program accreditation, school partnerships and high-quality academic programs. Additionally, the Dean will collaborate with the provost, other college deans, and members of the Administrative Team. This Dean position is an opportunity to help a successful program continue to grow and advance, support a very cohesive faculty, and provide direction for the current challenging climate in Education. In addition, the Dean will provide collaborative leadership and administrative oversight for strategic initiatives and progressive development of the School’s research, teaching, and service. The Dean will be actively engaged in the community and will serve as the voice for the SoE with the South Dakota Department of Education as well as the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP).
Black Hills State University is a masters-level public university with more than 3,600 students. BHSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The BHSU School of Education is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The placement rate of teacher-education graduates employed in education fields is over 90 percent. The SoE offers 19 undergraduate and 4 graduate degrees with unique and significant field-based experiences. The educational experience is designed to be intellectually stimulating and socially challenging while preparing students for productive teaching careers. Faculty are highly trained, genuinely caring, and deeply committed to training the highest quality teachers possible.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Education from an accredited institution. The candidate must have academic experience commensurate with an appointment at BHSU at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The candidate must have a minimum of five years of teaching experience in higher education. At least two years of administrative experience at the department, school, or college level preferred.
