Dean of Communications manages administrative functions of the college of communications. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Communications leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Communications requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Communications manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Communications typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     The Dean of Students position at our non-profit, charter school in the Cleveland Central Neighborhood is a key leadership role responsible for creating a positive and nurturing learning environment for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. As the Dean of Students, you will play a pivotal role in promoting student well-being, fostering a strong school culture, and supporting the academic and social-emotional development of our diverse student body.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement programs and initiatives to promote a positive school climate and student engagement.
    • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to address student behavior and discipline-related matters in a fair and consistent manner.
    • Provide guidance and support to students in navigating social and emotional challenges, promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.
    • Monitor student attendance and work with families and community resources to address any barriers to regular school attendance.
    • Collaborate with the school leadership team to develop and implement school-wide policies and procedures to ensure a supportive and productive learning environment.
    • Act as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and addressing concerns or issues promptly.
    • Coordinate and oversee extracurricular activities, student clubs, and events that enhance student engagement and school spirit.
    • Stay up to date with educational best practices, research, and legislation related to student support and well-being.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
    • Experience working in an educational setting, preferably with students in elementary and middle school grades.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Knowledge of student behavior management strategies and techniques.
    • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations related to student discipline, attendance, and well-being.
    • Ability to create and maintain a positive and inclusive school culture.
    • Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks effectively.
