    GENERAL SUMMARY 

    Under the guidance of the DirectorInformation Technology, the Database Engineeis responsible for managing the efficacy and integrity of organizational database systems for collections, digital assets, donors, customer relationship management, and ticketing. The engineer is responsible for identifying, diagnosing, troubleshooting, developing, and implementing database solutions. This role ensures the availability, scalability, and performance of organizational databases and adopts a customer-centric approach to meet colleagues' and organization’s needs in alignment with strategic goals and initiatives. 

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

    • Design, build, and maintain core database infrastructure. 
    • Manage and enhance the established organizational database systems, routing and tracking database-related tickets, emails, and calls for appropriate resolution. 
    • Perform maintenance, validation, and enhancement on automated enterprise-scale database deployment solutions. 
    • Act as a liaison with product owners to ensure implementation of effective solutions including migrations and integrations with other datasets, data stores, database systems, and adopted software products. 
    • Test modifications of existing database solutions and new technology solutions, gathering user input and feedback to improve solutions. 
    • Develop and implement project management plans for implementations and upgrades, anticipate impacts, and to track issues with problematic data through resolution. 
    • Align and communicate database solution rollouts to organizational stakeholders. 
    • Execute database system and software deployments, special backups, or other assigned projects. 
    • Identifyanalyze, diagnose, troubleshoot, develop, and apply best practice solutions for database management and related hardware, software, and network issues. 
    • Manage organization-wide database equipment procurement, deaccessioning, and recycling. 
    • Create, maintain, and terminate database user and group objects and access privileges through Active Directory, MSSQL, and related platforms. 
    • Provide product owner orientation and training. 
    • Prepare and lead training for product owners and users involving the various systems. 
    • Create and maintain relevant documentation and standard operating procedures for assigned database duties. 
    • Coordinate with vendors for database service and support as needed. 
    • Maintain database hardware and software inventories. 
    • Apply organizational values to interactions to foster a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders. 
    • Perform other duties as assigned. 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS 

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

    Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or related field required. Five (5) years of experience managing Databases. Additional years of experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. 

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

    • Working knowledge of best practices for database deployment and maintenance. 
    • Demonstrated experience with and advising on basic-but-thorough Information Security principles. 
    • Experience with project management systems or software, Wrike preferred. 
    • Demonstrated organizational skills to plan, manage, prioritize, and complete multiple on-going projects to meet deadlines and goals.  
    • Experience with developing and tracking budgets for projects, ensuring adherence to approved budgets. 
    • Must have demonstrated active listening and communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly and professionally. 
    • Ability to deescalate and resolve challenging situations calmly and professionally. 
    • Ability to identify challenges, engage others in their resolution, and recommend appropriate courses of action. 
    • Ability to provide information, ideas, and instructions clearly, effectively, and professionally through talking or writing.  
    • Demonstrated ability to provide strong customer service. 
    • Demonstrated ability to work with attention to detail and produce accurate results. 
    • Understanding of ethical business conduct and professional practices, including maintenance and protection of confidential information. 
    • Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours as needed. 
    • Proficiency in the latest version of Office 365. 
    • Proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as digital collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams. 
    • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork.  This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.
