We have an immediate opportunity with one of our largest clients for Vertica Database Engineer with good knowledge of SQL in Austin, TX.
The person should have sound knowledge of Vertica Architecture (column orientation, compression, projections, segmentations, partitions, high availability and security). Must have hands-on Vertica implementation, expertise in installing/ upgrade and maintaining Vertica clusters, implementing backup and recovery processes. Must have experience in Performance Tuning in Vertica which includes creation of projection, partition swapping etc, performance monitoring and tuning, data management and resource management for analytics use cases. Must have hands-on experience with database optimization, tuning DBA specific activities for Vertica. Should provide Vertica design and development for large enterprise solutions. Will be able to design, implement, and optimize Vertica database with optimal database configuration (e.g., Vertica configuration parameters) that support real-time customer use-cases for high scale. Must have prior working knowledge of Vertica ecosystem like Hadoop/Kafka etc. Should be able to write/ modify shell/ Python script for database maintenance.
The person will work in customer environment to optimize system performance using Vertica tuning tools and manual techniques. Should maintain Vertica databases with regular patching, upgrades, updating stats and other maintenance activities. Candidate will monitor Vertica cluster health and perform necessary tuning, identify poorly performance queries. Will be required to create projections and other measures to improve application performance, allocate workloads to resource pools and deliver optimal performance for application workloads, troubleshoot and resolve Vertica system issues, maintain database service levels and availability goals, database monitoring and performance tuning, database backup and recovery, and resolving production database incidents. Candidate will collaborate in evolving overall development and technology strategies and establish database design and administration standards and best practices around performance tuning and query optimization improvements. Should manage data governance and security, work with IT security teams to track access, audit, and approvals for Big Data platform.
Candidate will plan best practices and standards for data access, audit tracking, segmentation of data through security standards (Kerberos, LDAP, authentication and authorization).
