    Job Description Summary:
    The Department of Biostatistics & Data Science at the University of Kansas Medical Center is recruiting a Database Administrator to join a vibrant group of faculty, staff, and students. This position will design and support complex scientific research database collection methodologies for basic and clinical research studies; identify and resolve database issues; work with our team of scientific software and application support staff to implement integrated research-support software and databases. This position is critical to advancing the clinical research goals across the Health Sciences. This position ultimately reports to the chair of the Department of Biostatistics & Data Science; however, the Director of Research Information Technology supervises all day-to-day activities and sets the priorities for this position.

    Required Qualifications:
    Education :
    Bachelor's degree in computer science or other technology-related discipline

    Work Experience :
    Proficient and strong working knowledge in PL/SQL, SQL functions, triggers, complex queries, SQL reports.
    Working Knowledge of Relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, SQL server and PostgreSQL is required.
    Working knowledge of operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and UNIX.
    Experience with database migration, database development, database maintenance performance tuning and optimization, and setting up and managing database connections.
    Automation of ETL process between databases.

    Skills :
    Planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills.
    Excellent communication and customer service skills desired.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office products or equivalent.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Work Experience :
    Knowledgeable in FDA regulation about electronic records and the use of computerized in research environments.
    Two years of experience in academic or private health-related research environment.
    Experience with report writing.
    Working knowledge of working with R and Shiny application.
    Experience in creating, conducting training and documenting Meta data such as data dictionaries, that are utilized for research.
    Experience with software integration such as LDAP, Active directory
    Oracle Database Associate Level Certification or SQL Database certification preferred.

    Job Duties Outlined:
    Install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS), along with the quarterly database patches database.
    Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary ('metadata').
    Update and maintain system to remain compliant with federal and other regulatory guidelines as well as general system administration and oversight in cooperation with the IT Project Manager. Control access permissions and privileges, establish the needs of users, and monitor user access and security.
    Populate data from various sources into our Cancer Curated Clinical Outcomes Database (C3OD).
    Creates, modifies, and maintains standardized templates of data collection forms for C3OD. Creation and maintenance of Disease specific variables.
    With other members of systems team develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans; and communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security. Work with Information Resources team to ensure that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
    Write database scripts to populate the data from the path repots, which will be used by our Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithm.
    Develop and maintain procedures for deploying R shiny projects on Department of Biostatistics owned environment.
    Update and patch all the R shiny application periodically.
    Maintain the data feeds from our Clinical Trial Management to our University of Kansas Cancer Center Applications.
    Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards with respect to database and data integration.
    Responsible for reviewing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedure and the change control documents.
    Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Department chair.
