Data Steward
Mission
Solugen’s mission is to decarbonize chemicals manufacturing. With Solugen’s first 10,000 tpy commercial plant up and running in Houston, TX the company is continuing to expand with new commercial plants under development and new molecules being developed for commercialization. The Data Steward role will be paramount in ensuring that data is produced, managed, and consumed effectively, serving as the bridge between data generation and its valuable application across the organization. In this role the successful candidate will help guide Solugen through its data evolution by steering the data strategy, upholding data governance, and cultivating a culture of data literacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison between departments, data producers, data engineers, data scientists, analysts and other business stakeholders across all of Solugen
- Partner with one or more departments to identify data needs and issues, and develop and execute corresponding strategies to enable easy access to the high quality data the departments need
- Help our departments derive value from our data through the definition and execution of analytics products such as dashboard and reports
- Define data models to enable the above
- Collaborate with the Head of Data, other Data Stewards, and business stakeholders to define, develop, and administer the data governance and the data quality frameworks
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to establish and enforce proper data access controls
- Stay up to date with the latest data governance and quality techniques, tools, and industry trends
- Proactively identify issues and improvement opportunities – think through and provide suggestions for solving issues and improving processes.
- Support for our health and safety programs – demonstrate by volunteering for related projects/presentations and vocalize your support in appropriate settings.
- Other activities as defined by the department head
Key Outcomes
- Strategic Data Leadership: Work directly with the Head of Data and other stakeholders to formulate and execute the company's data strategy, clearly identifying data sources, producers, and primary consumers; and orchestrating how data will flow and be consumed within the organization.
- Data Governance: Establish, implement, and oversee data governance policies and procedures, ensuring data integrity, quality, and compliance throughout its lifecycle.
- Data Literacy Ambassador: Spearhead data literacy initiatives, developing and delivering training programs to elevate the entire company's understanding and competent use of data.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with department heads and other key stakeholders to identify data needs and ensure alignment with the overarching data strategy and governance protocols.
- Continuous Evolution: Stay attuned to the ever-changing data landscape, adjusting our strategy and governance to meet new challenges and seize emerging opportunities.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management); a Master's degree is a plus.
- Previous experience with data management, data governance, a plus.
- Proficiency in databases and data modeling.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of relevant data privacy and security regulations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders.
- Chemical manufacturing industry experience a plus.
- Experience with as many as possible of the below categories:
- Cloud services such as AWS, Azure
- Data storage solutions such as data warehouses, data lakes, and lake houses
- Tools and/or workflows to move data onto such storage solutions
- Analytics tools such as Sigma or Tableau
