Data Steward coordinates an organization's quality, security, and maintenance of data. Defines data elements and establishes policies and procedures related to the collection and accuracy of data, and performs tests on data systems. Being a Data Steward ensures sufficient data quality is maintained so that the data can effectively support the business process. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Data Steward typically reports to a manager. The Data Steward contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. About us
Scio Township, a vibrant community west of Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County, owns and operates a growing network of nature preserves, parks, and pathways. Three Scio parks and four Scio nature preserves are currently open to the public: Sloan Preserve, Marshall Park, West Scio Preserve, Scio Farms Trails, Liberty Pond Nature Area, Van Curler Preserve and Township Hall Park. Scio Township also owns and operates the Zeeb Road Pathway.
Responsibilities:
· Manually remove invasive plant species from Township parks, preserves, and pathways.
· Maintain existing trails, construct new trails.
· Maintain and construct boardwalk.
· Support Scio Outside programming, Scio Township’s Parks, Preserves, and Pathways Community Engagement Program.
· Maintain property cleanliness by picking-up litter and emptying bins.
Qualifications:
· Ability to identify common SE Michigan invasive species.
· Ability to lift 30 pounds and hike over undeveloped terrain for 3 miles.
· Ability to conduct fieldwork with minimal supervision.
· Ability to perform manual labor, such as trail construction and maintenance, in all weather conditions.
· Experience safely using hand tools (shovel, rake, pruners, loppers, hand saw, hoe, mattock, etc.).
· Have experience safely using power tools and riding mower.
· Strong communication skills.
· Teaching/ community engagement experience.
· Be able to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Employment Details:
· This is an at will, paid seasonal position of fixed duration with no benefits. Time frame: May-November, exact dates negotiable.
· Stewards must provide their own transportation. The Scio preserves are located approximately 8 miles from UM campus. Buses can be taken from the Blake Transit Center to the border of Scio Township (approximately a 3-mile trip). Most Scio preserves are within a 20-minute bike ride from there.
