Position Overview
The Director, Data Strategy, works with the VP of Data Strategy within the Global Data and Analytics department to ensure RGA acquires and utilizes data to maximize the value of the enterprise now and in the future. Assist the business in extracting the maximum value from the data driven initiatives, with a particular focus on project initiation and implementation. Strengthen internal and external relationships developed by VPs with a wide range of potential partners and users. Throughout implementations, the Director, Data Strategy plays a key role in product management, change management, and product adoption with the business teams.

Responsibilities
- Assist in defining an enterprise wide, multi-year, data strategy designed to enhance and protect RGA’s position as the leading Life and Health reinsurer in the world.
- Execute the strategy agreed upon and demonstrate autonomy by:
- Supporting local business units and global functions in the roll out and implementation of the enterprise data strategy
- Continuously refining data governance, operating model and architecture frameworks based on business needs
- Scanning new data sources, partners, paradigms, technologies and methods that could generate valuable data for RGA Identifying and prioritizing data needs across the enterprise through consultation with local offices and global functions
- Reviewing portfolio of data assets and make recommendations on which assets should continue to be acquired and curated and those that should be terminated
- Supporting business cases for acquisition of data recognizing both direct and immediate value along with longer term benefits of owning data, e.g. “data as a currency”
- Proposing and developing frameworks to link macro, meso, and micro level datasets
- Recognizing, understanding, and managing within the legal and ethical frameworks within RGA’s markets
- Work to ensure maximum value from data driven initiatives through initiation and implementation stages such as: Ensure datasets being used for analyses are regularly enhanced through linkage
- Assist with the creation of final proposals to clients. Provide peer support
- Maintain regular communications, support and coordinates activities of other data focused associates globally.
- Foster partnerships with external parties that could support RGAs data acquisition strategy such as joint ventures, strategic partnerships, acquisition opportunity.
- Help to build RGA’s corporate profile, maximize value from data projects and to contribute to RGA’s marketing efforts by: Presenting at industry meetings and to clients as needed.
- Presenting research findings through various means such as webcasts, publications, etc.
- Develop a deep understanding of the needs and practices of the different markets in which RGA operates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Data related fields, OR equivalent experience
- 8 years’ business experience inclusive of 5 years’ experience in data, business analytics, or business process assessments and transformation
Preferred:
- MBA in Data or Business Analytics related fields, Math, Finance, Economics or Statistics
- Experience working with and/or conducting business in multiple countries Management consulting experience

- Advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies
- Comfort with ambiguity
Preferred:
- Knowledge of data¬ecosystem in multiple countries Knowledge of life insurance underwriting Understanding of reinsurance
- Knowledge of mortality and morbidity insurance products globally Experience with Visio or other business process mapping tools
- Experience working with data visualization tools such as Tableau, QlikView, etc
- Basic knowledge of multivariate and predictive analytics techniques and applications

The general pay range for this position is $101,685 - $151,435 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
