Data Science Manager manages teams tasked with identifying trends, patterns, and anomalies found in big data sets and used to develop insights by performing extensive data analysis. Oversees the interpretation of results from multiple sources using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining. Being a Data Science Manager manages the design and implementation of big data solutions for the organization. Uses extensive knowledge and research into big data tools to guide data scientists' adoption and use of new and existing tools.     The Role
    As a Manager within Axtria’s Data Science COE you will have the responsibility to apply AI/GenAI and data science to solve business problems for functional areas within Biopharma/Oncology, relating to Sales and Marketing, Medical Affairs and/or Clinical. 
    These areas include but are not limited to: 
    • Provider/account Segmentation, Targeting, Promotion Response Modeling, Marketing Mix Optimization, Digital Analytics. 
    • MLOps
    • GenAI development and industrialization 

    This role has a team management component but will be expected to be a hands-on leader/delivery champion. This role reports to the Data Science – COE Executive.  

    The location is Berkeley Heights, NJ and has a hybrid model of 3 days onsite.

    • Flexibility to travel to clients and those willing to relocate to greater NY/NJ also considered.  

    Key Responsibilities 
    • Collaborate with internal and client stakeholders to understand business objectives and requirements for AI, GenAI and data science projects. 
    • Design and develop solutions using AI and GenAI to predict, analyze and summarize key business metrics and trends, optimize customer experience, and improve business outcomes. 
    • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and relationships in the data. 
    • Select and apply appropriate modeling techniques, such as regression, clustering, bagging, boosting, neural networks, and deep learning algorithms. 
    • Design and develop GenAI applications using large language models, vector databases and prompt engineering.
    • Use MLOps and LLMOps frameworks to implement AI and GenAI models in production environments e.g. in AWS or Azure. 
    • Coach team members to clean, preprocess, and transform large datasets to prepare them for model development. 
    • Coach data science teams on evaluating and selecting appropriate modeling methodologies to optimize performance and adoption. 
    • Validate and refine models using various evaluation techniques, including cross-validation, hypothesis testing, and performance metrics. 
    • Interpret model results and present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. 
    • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure seamless integration of models into production systems. 
    • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in AI/GenAI and data science methods. 
    • Flexibility to travel and/or relocate within the US as per project requirements. 

    Required Experience/Skills 
    • 5 years of professional industry experience 
    • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related discipline. 
    • Strong proficiency in statistical analysis and modeling techniques, such as linear regression, logistic regression, decision trees, random forests, clustering, deep learning algorithms, boosting, text mining and NLP. 
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and in Python packages such as NumPy, Pandas, Sklearn, Seaborn, PyCaret, Matplotlib. 
    • Solid understanding and experience with database systems and SQL for data retrieval and manipulation. 
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into actionable models. 
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams. 

    Preferred Qualifications 
    • Master’s or advanced degree in a quantitative field highly preferred. 
    • Proven experience in developing and implementing predictive models (MLOps) in cloud environments such as AWS and Azure is highly preferred. 
    • Familiarity or work experience in the Pharmaceutical or Life Science industry is highly preferred. 
    • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Databricks, Snowflake) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure). 
    • Experience of working in large teams and using collaboration tools like GIT, Jira, and Confluence. 
    • Experience in leveraging Patient data/ Claims data/ Patient Analytics. 
    • Experience as a hands-on contributor to client work, including ability to run a presentation or own a portion of client facing work.
    • Adaptable and agile skills while working in a fast-paced environment.  
    • Ability to conceptualize, negotiate and sell ideas internally and externally.
