Data Science Manager manages teams tasked with identifying trends, patterns, and anomalies found in big data sets and used to develop insights by performing extensive data analysis. Oversees the interpretation of results from multiple sources using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining. Being a Data Science Manager manages the design and implementation of big data solutions for the organization. Uses extensive knowledge and research into big data tools to guide data scientists' adoption and use of new and existing tools. Additionally, Data Science Manager typically requires a master's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Data Science Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Data Science Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Summer Internship: Software, Modeling & Sim, Data Science

    We are looking for several interns to join our team in Flagstaff, Arizona, for summer ‘24.

    Open positions include the following disciplines:

    • Software Engineering
    • Data Science
    • Modeling & Simulation

    This is a full-time, in-person position with a duration of 12 weeks. We offer competitive pay as well as housing and relocation assistance.

    Note: Applicants are not required to have expertise in all three areas.

    Key Responsibilities for Each Area:

    Software Engineering Internship

    • Software Design & Development: Contribute to the planning, design, and development of software applications that support satellite operations, data analysis, and mission planning.
    • Code Testing & Debugging: Implement rigorous testing protocols to identify bugs and issues within software, ensuring reliability and performance.
    • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of code, methodologies, and software architecture to support future development efforts and software maintenance.

    Data Science Internship

    • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Utilize statistical techniques to analyze complex datasets, identifying trends, patterns, and insights relevant to the project.
    • Predictive Modeling: Apply machine learning algorithms and data modeling techniques to forecast outcomes and inform decision-making.
    • Data Visualization: Create visualizations and reports to communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical team members.

    Modeling & Simulation Internship

    • Simulation Development: Assist in the development and enhancement of simulations and models to predict the behavior of space systems under various operational conditions.
    • Model Validation: Collaborate with the Katalyst team to validate models against empirical data, ensuring accuracy and reliability of simulations.
    • Performance Analysis: Use simulations to analyze the performance of space technology components, identifying potential improvements or areas for further research.

    Qualifications:

    • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD program in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work on ambiguous challenges
    • Previous internship or project experience in your area of focus (Data Science, Software Development, or Modeling & Simulation)
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience with Python and/or MATLAB
