  • The Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing and interpreting data from various sources that support the NASA Scientific and Technical Information (STI) Program, to identify trends and propose solutions for process and system improvements.

    Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

    • Develops and implements procedures to integrate and maintain the NASA repository with third- party systems and applications;
    • Utilizes available APIs and web services, develops or modifies API scripts as needed, for data retrieval and data integrations with third-party applications and systems;
    • Prepares and maintains system logs to assist the program in maximizing data-driven decision making;
    • Collaborate with the STRIVES software development team at Johnson Space Center (JSC) to execute all activities specified in the software development process.
    • Review, analyze, and evaluate data changes and issues, and recommend data remediations for process and system improvements.
    • Analyze/assess existing metrics, databases, methods of data collection, and reporting to identify gaps, propose and implement opportunities to streamline and improve program processes.
    • Monitor and expand current databases, tools, and dashboards for continuous assessment of program health and trending/forecasting future needs and growth opportunities. All implemented solutions shall be automated, standardized, and repeatable, providing recurring reports as new data becomes available.
    • Prepare forecast analysis, metrics, reports, and provides recommendations related to management, organizational, policy/procedures, and business operations.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Familiarity with or working knowledge of data visualization software such as Kibana and Tableau.
    • Experience in data science and analytics services & reporting techniques that tell a story of service value.
    • Working knowledge of MS SharePoint and Office 365’ programs, including TEAMS.
    • Able to effectively communicate and collaborate with other Data Managers, Software Developers, and functional SMEs.
    • General awareness of Agile/scrum environment and open-source project management tools, such as Gitlab helpful
      • Hands-on understanding of web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript/JQuery, XML- based APIs;
    • Experience with JSON and AngularJS preferred;
    • Working knowledge of one or more structured programming languages (PHP, Ruby, Python, Perl, Java, Node.js, etc.);
    • Experience with web and user-centered design, assessment methodologies, and usability studies;
    • Knowledge of standards and best practices for web accessibility and ADA compliance preferred;
    • Understanding of library data formats and standards (MARC, Dublin Core, METS, MODs);
    • Understanding of digital collection management systems and current access services protocols to access and retrieve digital content (e.g. Z39.50, OpenURL, NCIP, DOI, CrossRef, OAI);
    • Working knowledge of cloud computing technologies, tools, and trends
    • Familiarity with analytic reporting from various systems for the extraction, manipulation, and visualization of data.
