Cytotechnologist

Full-time, 40 hours/week, 7:30am-4:00pm

Education

• Baccalaureate or Masters degree with a concentration of Cytotechnology from an accredited program by the HHS or Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation. Degree or certification in Cytotechnology is required.
• Certified in cytotechnology by a certification agency approved by HHS or ASCP required, may consider a candidate that has started the process to obtain certification.

Experience

1-3 years cytology experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge

• Demonstrates a mastery of the theories, principles and techniques involved in the area of specialization.

This individual must function with a high degree of technical expertise to ensure accuracy of diagnoses made from specimens submitted for evaluation. He/she must possess and exercise considerable personal judgement regarding classification of cells. He/she performs all necessary laboratory procedures pertaining to accessioning, technical preparation of cytologic specimens and initial evaluation of prepared slides from all body sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Demonstrates proficiency and understanding of all laboratory preparatory techniques necessary to produce cytologic specimens, including smears, and cell blocks.
• Able to recognize and advise for corrective actions on sub optimally processed/prepared specimens.
• Collects, accessions, and prepares GYN, Non Gyn, and FNA specimens.
• Maintains quality control and maintenance records within the cytology lab section under direction of the Section Leader and/or Manager.
• Evaluates all GYN, Non GYN, and FNA cytologic slides microscopically to determine the presence of cancer cells, infectious organisms, etc.
• Identifies and marks all abnormal cells and presents these findings to a Pathologist for final evaluation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.11 - $41.00 per hour
