Cytogenetic Technologist performs microscopic analysis for cytogenetic studies on biological specimens. Analyzes chromosomes for prenatal diagnosis, congenital birth defects, fertility problems and hematological disorders. Being a Cytogenetic Technologist is responsible for harvesting cells, image analysis, and results reporting. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Cytogenetic Technologist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Shift: Weekend night position 1pm to 1am (Fri, Sat & Sun).
Summary:
Practice technology founded upon theoretical knowledge and concepts, use equipment and accessories consistent with the purposes for which they were designed, and employ procedures and techniques appropriately.
Assess situations; exercises care, discretion, and judgment; assumes responsibility for professional decisions; and acts in the best interest of the patient.
Act as an agent through observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient and recognizes that interpretation and diagnosis are outside the scope of practice for the profession.
Use equipment and accessories, employ techniques and procedures, perform services in accordance with an accepted standard of practice, and demonstrate expertise in minimizing radiation exposure to the patient, self, and other members of the healthcare team.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Current State of Texas License as a Radiology Technologist.
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Applied Science-Radiology or trained in a hospital based program (AMA approved).
ARRT (R), MUST be (CT) registered.
Successful completion of cross sectional anatomy.
Must have 2 years of experience as a diagnostic technologist.
