    Description

    Director of Outreach and Retention

    The successful candidate will plan, organize, direct, and provide leadership of all aspects of the Welcome Center, Student Outreach and Recruitment (SOAR), and the First-Year Experience (FYE) departments. This includes creating a vision for and leading the development and implementation of campus-wide activities, strategies, evaluating the effectiveness, and providing oversight and supervision of faculty and staff assigned to these various departments.

    Example of Duties

    Overall:
    Administer, develop, organize, coordinate, implement and supervise the operation and activities for the Welcome Center, SOAR, and FYE

    Establish and evaluate progress towards program target outcomes and drive planning through data-driven assessment and improvement for all three areas/departments

    Select, orient, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate contract employees and faculty

    Oversee the work of staff and faculty involved in the delivery of services for all three areas

    Participates in the development, administration, and oversight of the program's annual budget; monitors program expenditures to ensure compliance with established laws and regulations, as well as funding requirements

    Establishes and maintains relationships with school district officials, community leaders, various organizations, and public agencies to encourage participation, stimulate interest, and coordinate campus projects with assigned programs and activities; participates in developing strategic plans for outreach, recruitment, and retention by coordinating with other divisions to implement related outreach and retention plans

    Maintains program compliance with state, county, and federal regulations and laws; provides accurate reporting of program data to state and county regulatory agencies

    Develops, analyzes, and assesses Service Area Outcomes (SAOs) to ensure the measurement and improvement of program effectiveness, and implements program modifications as necessary

    Be an integral team player with campus and community partners, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication

    Attend and participate in professional group meetings and various committees and advisory groups; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of outreach and retention resources, programs, and other services as they relate to the area of assignment

    Perform other related duties as assigned

    Welcome Center:
    Develop and implement an institutional plan that addresses the needs of Student Services in creating a "One-Stop-Shop" for prospective and continuing students in the Welcome Center

    Work collaboratively with other departments to establish first-tier responsibilities that serve students thus reducing referring a student to another department

    Manage day-to-day operations including, but not limited to, scheduling, staffing, and safety protocols

    Foster a welcoming environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect

    SOAR:
    Develop an institutional outreach, recruitment, and onboarding plan and corresponding timeline; evaluate and revise regularly

    Collaborate closely with Dual Enrollment, First Year Experience, Student Services (especially Admissions & Records, Counseling, and Financial Aid), and Academic Affairs to coordinate and centralize outreach, recruitment, and onboarding efforts, practices, and processes

    Design and implement clear connections between outreach and FYE activities (e.g., Summer Bridge)

    Plan, prepare and facilitate campus-wide outreach, recruitment, onboarding, and retention workshops, and events

    Proactively engage and collaborate with CAP Completion Teams and other academic and student services areas to ensure accurate understanding and knowledge of institutional programs, opportunities, resources, and activities for the purpose of outreach and recruitment

    First-Year Experience:
    Proactively engage and collaborate with CAP Completion Teams and other academic and student services areas to ensure accurate understanding and knowledge of institutional programs, opportunities, resources, and activities for the purpose of onboarding and retention

    Plan, prepare and facilitate and support outreach, recruitment, onboarding, and retention workshops and event

    Plan and develop a First-Year Experience that increases transfer rates while creating a Transfer Culture experience

    Develop and implement strategies to improve placement and progression for all incoming, with particular attention to underserved students

    Develop activities and relationships that promote transfer and career opportunities.

    Background Information Related to the Director of SOAR

    College and Career Guidance (CCG) Work Team Recommendations (Spring 2021)

    The Guided Pathways College and Career Guidance (CCG) Work Team, consisting of faculty, classified, and administrators, conducted a comprehensive inquiry into key Guided Pathways Essential Practices that fall under Pillar 2: Entering the Path and Pillar 3: Staying on the Path. The inquiry process included internal and external sources including student feedback and culminated in a set of recommendations to address the team's key findings. A significant component of these recommendations pertains to the college's outreach and recruitment processes. "Based on the analysis of these inquiries and discussion with stakeholders, the CCG work team has recommended the establishment of a Student Outreach and Recruitment (SOAR) Department . The proposed SOAR department would allow for centralized and dedicated outreach, recruitment, and onboarding efforts." (CCG Work Team) The CCG Work Team's recommendations include targeted outcomes for SOAR as well as key department responsibilities and calls for the creation of a Director to lead the functions of the SOAR department.

    In consideration of the need for intentional, structured, seamless, and proactive student support from pre-college through the first year of college (GP Pillars 2 and 3), there exists a strong relationship between the work of the proposed SOAR department, Welcome Center, and First-Year Experience (FYE). Though each department or program maintains a distinct charge, identity, and set of objectives and responsibilities, the intrinsic links between these areas illustrate the need for a high level of ongoing coordination and collaboration, which would result not only in strengthened relationships with high school and community partners and the resulting enhancement of college enrollment but also in more targeted and robust retention resources and activities at scale. This could be achieved through the establishment of a Director of Outreach and Retention.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent; and

    Two (2) years of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's assignment; and

    Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    Proof of Vaccination

    New employees may begin working in their assignments only after the District has received proof that the person is fully vaccinated or an exemption has been approved.

    Salary

    $7,896 (Step I)- $8,540 (Step III) Great Health Package (no additional costs for benefits).
