PPPL invites applications for the position of Senior Project Controls Manager in support of the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) program. ITER is a global collaboration in which PPPL is engaged to design and build diagnostic equipment and develop scientific data and software coding for this international facility. PPPL’s ITER support consists of six unique diagnostic systems which encompass over $600M worth of scope. The ITER program will play a critical role advancing the worldwide availability of energy from fusion - the power source of the sun and the stars.

The Senior Project Controls Manager will lead and manage the team of project controls specialists for the ITER program and for a variety of construction and Science Projects in support of the Lab Mission. This Position reports functionally to the Project Management Office.
Communicates requirements to members of the project controls team and holds members of the team accountable for performance.
Assigns tasks to the project controls team to assure that project controls deliverables deadlines are met, and and these tracks to completion.
Coordinates quality, and controls assurance activities, to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
Act as a Liaison with ITER Project Office Project Controls team for coordination/integration of adjacent projects and development of standard reporting.
Development and configuration of the project cost and schedule baseline using P6 software to maintain a resource loaded schedule in line with the most current government and industry requirements and guidelines for EVM implementation and to ensure compliance with PPPL’s Project Management System.
Solicitation and collection of project status data as reported by project line management and Control Account Managers on a monthly basis and as needed.
Change Management - Preparation and execution of project change requests.
Provision of up to date cost, schedule, and variance status information and trending reports, and modeling of alternatives and “what-if” scenarios as proposed by the project manager as needed.
Thorough review and clearly communicated analysis of project resource loaded schedules for proper sequence, logical relationships, and critical path analysis, logical costing models, resource leveling, etc. including suggested solutions for troubleshooting issues.
In-depth review and analysis of project performance and forecasts, providing clear analysis of trending and variances as well as identification of specific task(s) causing them.
Project cost and schedule risk analysis/identification of potential schedule and cost issues. Pro-actively informing Project management of potential risks and problems and proposal of resolutions with sufficient time to mitigate the impact(s).
Update and review of project documentation, provision of charts, graphs and presentation materials and status reports as needed.
Maintaining functional proficiency and assure compliance through participation in earned value and project reviews and assessments.
Provide review of proposed projects and what-if analysis using data mining techniques from historical project cost, schedule, and performance archives.
Assist in the development of the organization’s project controls/earned value system, processes, tools and templates.
Other duties as assigned by matrixed projects.
Education and Experience:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Powerpoint, with extensive and demonstrable experience in advanced Excel functions, and professional development and presentation of powerpoint (or equivalent) slideshows.
5 (five) years of hands-on experience with Primavera scheduling software or equivalent.
Demonstrated past hands-on experience with Deltek Cobra or equivalent.
Demonstrated past experience Deltek Acumen Fuse and Acumen Risk preferred.
General Requirements:
Comprehensive earned value management knowledge and experience in interpretation, execution, and application of project management theories, principles, and techniques for cost and schedule systems for project and program portfolios.
Ability to use computerized performance measurement systems for schedule, cost and risk management.
Thorough understanding of variance forensics and analysis.
Experience with risk management and analysis.
Critical understanding of building and organizing WBS, task sequencing, resource loading, etc.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
Strong ability to collaborate with Project Managers diverse and international teams.
Ability to take broad concepts and raw data and develop timely and accurate information to be used by all levels of Lab leadership.
