Curriculum Manager manages the design and development of training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Oversees skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Manager consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Manager provides outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Participates in the selection of software or collaboration tools used for training. Establishes metrics used to evaluate training effectiveness and analyzes outcomes to determine ROI and recommend changes to programs. May select and manage vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Curriculum Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Curriculum Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     JOB DESCRIPTION:
    The Opportunity:
    This role is an exciting opportunity to serve on a diverse and dynamic team committed to the task of transforming public education in Providence Public Schools. Working alongside a team of dedicated, equity-driven team of professionals, the goal is to deliver on societies’ most fundamental obligation: providing all children with access to a fair, equitable and rigorous education. The time for change is now and the district is in the process of a game-changing transformation led by a newly appointed State Turnaround Superintendent, in coordination with the Rhode Island Department of Education and with the support of the larger Providence community. The Manager of Data Analysis, Assessment and Curriculum (hereinafter referred to as MAAC) will play a key role in supporting stakeholders in managing and resolving high priority constituent issues and responding to the needs of parents, the community, and its schools.

    The Role:
    The MAAC is responsible for providing leadership personnel with accurate and timely data needed to provide targeted supports to schools throughout the school year. As part of their duties, they will assist district and school based leaders in interpreting formative and summative data and analysis results to better inform next steps. The MAAC supports and collaborate other teams and colleagues for analyzing data for program evaluation.

    The Candidate:
    Successful candidates must demonstrate a deep belief in the capacity of all students to achieve at high levels, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse set of leaders and stakeholders, and strong data analysis skills.

    EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    • A graduate degree from an accredited higher education institution in Psychometrics, Educational Sciences, Social Sciences, Economics or related. Doctoral degree is preferred

    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:
    Specific Duties:
    • Oversees and maintains the data tracking system used to monitor school academic performance across schools to ensure appropriate progress monitoring of key performance indicators used to drive improvement efforts
    • Assists school and leaders with interpreting data to arrive at meaningful conclusions Conducts item analysis inspections following formative assessments to identify gaps in instruction or question-type
    • Conducts analysis of assessment data, including predictions of district accountability outcomes based on existing data
    • Analyzes formative and summative achievement data and prepare legible reports; Using data, evaluates the effectiveness of school or district programs/initiatives
    • Supports school and district personnel in interpreting student performance by disaggregating and analyzing formative and summative assessment data and working with members of the school’s leadership team to determine appropriate next steps
    • Develops a data tracking system to assess the effectiveness of human capital within the network of assigned schools
    • Prepares data reports for various audiences (e.g. community, school board, principals, district leaders)
    • Provides relevant and necessary professional development learning sessions to assist appropriate site-based personnel, district leadership and members of the school’s leadership team
    • Proficient in Excel and Google suites
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    • Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive information; in interpersonal problem- solving, decision-making and leadership skills; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to manage and work with a team to accomplish mission and goals. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS:
    • Belief in PPSD’s mission, vision, and core values
    • Familiarity with PPSD’s Turnaround Action Plan
    • Experience conducting program evaluation
    • Experience developing logic models
    • Experience and facility manipulating large-scale datasets
    • Experience utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods, including formative and summative evaluations, surveys, focus groups, process evaluations, cost analyses, participatory evaluations, implementation and effectiveness studies
    • Familiarity with K-12 assessment theories and practices
    • Familiarity with K-12 core subject area (ELA and Math)*
    • Familiarity with K-12 instructional theories and practices, and curriculums*
    • Familiarity with technical frameworks for improvement (logic models, conceptual models, root cause analysis)
    • Familiarity with data science and data mining techniques* 
    • Advance knowledge of utilizing statistical software (SPSS, STATA, SAS, R, etc.)*
    • Familiarity with SQL queries
    • Experience translating statistical information for non-expert and non-technical audiences*
    • Broad knowledge about the K-12 educational landscape and knowledge of education research, education policy, or the learning sciences preferred
    • Understanding of core principles of student data privacy, confidentiality, and security
    • Creative and innovative disposition, able to tackle challenges with persistence and a sense of humor
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, writing, verbal communications, and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience working in public schools or educational settings is preferred.
