Curriculum Manager manages the design and development of training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Oversees skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Manager consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Manager provides outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Participates in the selection of software or collaboration tools used for training. Establishes metrics used to evaluate training effectiveness and analyzes outcomes to determine ROI and recommend changes to programs. May select and manage vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Curriculum Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Curriculum Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Our school is a free and public charter school that currently serves more than 200 students in Paterson, NJ. Our current elementary school is growing from serving grades K-1 & 5 in our inaugural year to an elementary school serving grades K-2 next year and a middle school serving grades 5-6. Once fully grown, we will be serving approximately 675 students serving grades K - 8.

    Position Overview

    The Curriculum & Instruction Manager is responsible for overseeing the school’s curriculum writing and revision processes, specifically aligning the current curriculum to New Jersey State Standards, with ongoing revisions and edits as necessary.  

    The Curriculum & Instruction Manager collaborates with the Principal to develop and instructionally coach campus partners in the internalization and implementation of a mission-aligned curriculum.  Collaborating with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and external consultants, the Curriculum & Instruction Manager is an innovative and strategic self-starter, who can lead this curriculum revision process with creativity and attention to detail. 

    Core Competencies & Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership

    • An active member of the school’s leadership team, setting and supporting the school’s strategic direction to guide the vision and implementation of the school’s curriculum and to ensure high-quality implementation.
    • Collaborates with leadership team to support and provide exceptional instructional leadership and guidance
    • Responsible for the data-driven instructional leadership of the school, in collaboration with the school Principal and ILT. Includes, but is not limited to: direction for curriculum programming and pedagogical practices, co-leading the instructional leadership team, coaching teachers, developing & facilitating professional development, and creating & managing all academic benchmark assessments

    Curriculum Authorship and Management

    • Manage the quality and execution of the school’s curriculum with the revision of units, lessons, and supplemental materials 
    • Identify reliable sources to ensure that all curricular content includes accurate depictions from diverse perspectives
    • Develop curriculum materials and resources that facilitate a deepening of content knowledge for all relevant stakeholders
    • Collaborate with the Child Study Team to create differentiated curricular materials to improve the academic outcomes of students receiving targeted services
    • Conduct frequent classroom visits to ensure that the revised curriculum is implemented with fidelity and to gather feedback for necessary improvements
    • Deepen personal content knowledge and curriculum design skills through regular research, reading, and professional development
    • Ensure that the vertical scope and sequence of content results in high academic outcomes over time, meeting or exceeding school targets of proficiency

    Instructional Leadership

    • Build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to New Jersey Student Learning Standards, Common Core, and Data-Driven Instruction; Provide additional coaching for newer teachers or teachers needing additional support  
    • Conducts regular in-class observations, models effective lessons and instructional strategies, and regularly provides clear and written or verbal feedback to teachers 
    • Analyzes and uses data to develop and facilitate professional development related to deepening teacher and leader content & pedagogical knowledge 
    • Design, schedule, and facilitate regular school meetings and development including, but not limited to: content meetings, student data analysis, school observations, and debriefs
    • Progress monitoring of schools’ growth toward school targets to inform individual and grade-level development, systems, and structures 
    • Serves as point person for external instructional consultants 
    • Holistic Development of Scholars: Foster an inviting, growth-oriented classroom environment for Academic and Character formation, supporting holistic student growth
    • Curriculum and Instruction: Implement a classically-inspired, inquiry-based, rigorous curriculum aligned with national and state standards, inspiring curiosity, depth of insight, and lifelong learning readiness. Implement innovative teaching strategies that resonate with diverse learners
    • Promotion of Critical Thinking: Cultivate higher-order thinking skills in students, enhancing their abilities to analyze, create, synthesize, and evaluate
    • Data-Driven Instruction: Utilize assessment data to strengthen student achievement through targeted interventions and personalized instruction
    • Relationship Building for Success: Develop strong student and family connections, fostering a passion for learning and exceptional academic success
    • Collaborative Engagement & Continuous Improvement: Foster productive relationships with colleagues, parents, and the community while engaging in ongoing collaborative professional development, reflecting on student achievement, and efficiently managing time for impactful teaching and learning
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications & Certifications

    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, curriculum, administration, or related field and coursework
    • 3 years of experience in teacher and leader development, instructional design, and/or school improvement
    • NJ Teacher or Supervisor Certification (Preferred)
    • 3 years of successful teaching experience as evidenced by student achievement results
    • Exemplary knowledge of the Liberal Arts and a classical approach to learning 
    • Experience with a demonstrated proficiency in leading students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds preferred
