    General Purpose: The Risk Specialist performs the necessary functions to support and maintain BHFCU’s policies and procedures pertaining to various areas of risk.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities

    1. Assist the Vendor Management / Enterprise Risk Administrator with the maintenance of the Vendor Management Program, including, but not limited to ongoing monitoring, risk evaluation, due diligence, and audit assistance.
    2. Act as a resource to BHFCU personnel for questions and information regarding the Vendor Management Program and other areas of Risk.
    3. Perform the activities and administrative responsibilities of the Risk Specialist function.
    4. Assist the Vendor Management / Enterprise Risk Administrator with assembling and analyzing materials across all areas of the Credit Union to assess and identify pertinent risks to BHFCU and its members.
    5. Act as a resource to BHFCU personnel for questions and information regarding various areas of risk.
    6. Assist the Vendor Management / Enterprise Risk Administrator in supporting the Chief Risk Officer, Legal Counsel and Compliance Manager with legal research on various topics relevant to the Credit Union including, but not limited to, legal affairs, compliance/regulatory research and assembly of information as needed, potential new product offerings, industry approaches/best practices, as well as writings, drafting and transcription of various legal, compliance and operational correspondence and other documents.
    7. Assist with the assembly and production of documents for various audits.
    8. Maintain/update procedures as directed by the Vendor Management / Enterprise Risk Administrator.
    9. Assist with the maintenance of BHFCU's Record Retention Schedule.
    10. Provide support to the Vendor Management / Enterprise Risk Administrator as needed to include project implementation.

    Other Duties/Responsibilities

    1. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management.
    2. Keep abreast of legal and risk trends and changes in the financial services industry by reading pertinent materials, attending webinars, joining forums, etc.
    3. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Risk Officer, In-House Counsel or Compliance Manager.
    4. Must be able to work in a highly confidential environment.

    Job Knowledge

    1. Working knowledge of laws and regulations related to the credit union.
    2. Working knowledge of organization's policies/procedures and credit union's service philosophy.
    3. Working knowledge of the credit union's in-house computer system and internet.
    4. Basic understanding of legal research, legal terminology, and judicial system helpful.

    9. Ability to provide friendly, professional, and accurate service and support to all staff, members, and external contacts.

    Job Qualifications (Education/Experience)

    Job requires a two-year college level or equivalent of communication (verbal and written), math and reasoning skills. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education. One year in alternate BHFCU department or one year’s experience in financial services or related field is acceptable.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Work creates normal fatigue daily. Work creates moderate stress during certain periods during daily routine. The job calls for a high degree of mental concentration to interpret and act upon a wide range of situations. The job requires a degree of attention to detail.
