    The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland’s $46 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and insurance professionals’ compliance with State law.� Through the diligence of a highly professional staff of market analysts, financial analysts, accountants, lawyers, law enforcement officers, actuaries, complaint investigators, and others, the MIA works to facilitate a strong and competitive insurance marketplace where consumers are well informed and treated fairly.� Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and other public and private entities.�� The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and approval of rates and contract forms.� The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners, and/or property insurance.� Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law.� The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.�

    POSITION DUTIES

    The Maryland Insurance Administration’s Insurance Fraud and Producer Enforcement Division is seeking to fill a contractual Fraud and Enforcement Investigator position.� This position conducts detailed criminal, civil and administrative investigations into allegations of insurance fraud and other violations of the Insurance Article, by licensed and unlicensed individuals and entities.� Job responsibilities include interviewing witnesses, respondents and suspects, collecting and analyzing documents�and other evidence, preparing detailed reports, case files, subpoenas, orders to produce, applications for statement of charges or civil fraud orders. Fraud and Enforcement Investigators testify in Court and Administrative proceedings and work closely with prosecutors, Assistant Attorneys General, and law enforcement agencies. Investigators are required to travel Statewide.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. � Experience: Five years of experience conducting investigations of fraud, financial crimes or other civil or criminal misconduct matters;�or�five years of experience reviewing and analyzing financial documents for investigative purposes.� � Note: Additional experience�conducting investigations of fraud, financial crimes or other civil or criminal misconduct matters, or reviewing and analyzing financial documents for investigative purposes�may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.

    Employees in this position will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
