    In this exciting role at our Washington, D.C.-based, trade association, we are looking for a motivated and driven individual ready to lead efforts that support the strategic development of Farm Credit System (System) and Farm Credit Council (FCC) policies and priorities. This role will analyze legislative and regulatory proposals and support Farm Credit workgroups focused on specific agricultural and finance service industry topics. This role reports to and works closely with the Senior Vice President & General Counsel.

    The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of economic trends, policy frameworks, and a passion for contributing to the success of the agricultural industry.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Closely monitors the financial and economic conditions impacting U.S. agriculture and agricultural finance industries; identifies emerging trends and respective policy implications for Farm Credit System entities and their competitors.
    • Conduct in-depth economic research and analysis to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities affecting the agricultural sector.
    • Working with the SVP & General Counsel, this role will help analyze and respond to regulatory developments, from the Farm Credit Administration (FCA), Farm Credit System Insurance Corporation (FCSIC), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and other government agencies, as appropriate.
    • Works with appropriate System personnel (via workgroups and other preferred mechanisms) to develop, recommend and achieve policy priorities consistent with FCC objectives.
    • Analyze and respond to regulatory developments, from the Farm Credit Administration (FCA), Farm Credit System Insurance Corporation (FCSIC), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and other government agencies, as appropriate.
    • Works with appropriate System personnel (via workgroups and other preferred mechanisms) to develop, recommend and achieve policy priorities consistent with FCC objectives.
    • Provides analytical support to the System and FCC regarding the potential impact of legislative and regulatory proposals on System institutions as well as help to develop policy options and official comment letters.
    • Supports efforts to obtain favorable action taken by policy makers, regulators, and other thought-leaders (think-tanks, etc.).
    • Helps promote FCC and Farm Credit generally through thought-leadership and information-sharing on agricultural and rural credit conditions to both internal audiences, external stakeholders, and policy makers.
    • Builds and maintains professional relationships with staff at government agencies (such as USDA), regulators (such as FCA), universities, and other key stakeholders in the fields of agriculture and finance.
    • Provides technical assistance and essential data analysis to members of the FCC team to achieve more informed decision-making and thoughtful policy development.
    • Present findings and policy recommendations to internal and external audiences through reports, presentations and other communication channels.
    • Represents FCC and the System before internal & external stakeholders and policy makers, as appropriate.
    • Travels around the U.S. at 25% to attend events and meetings.

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, public policy, agricultural economics, or a related field required, graduate level degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years prior work experience in economic and policy analysis required, preferably in the agricultural sector.
    • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
    • Required knowledge of U.S. agriculture.
    • Proficient in Microsoft office, especially excel, and other data analysis tools required.
    • Familiarity with government relations and legislative processes.
    • Preferred knowledge of government data sources and financial reporting
    • Preferred understanding of USDA farm and other programs
    • Preferred knowledge of U.S. banking and financial system
    • Preferred understanding of data visualization and mapping
    • Organizational skills with attention to detail & high degree of accuracy
