    What You'll Do

    • The Sampling and Analysis (S&A) Section Manager performs direct supervision of sampling technicians (bargaining employees), coordinating and providing resources necessary for daily work assignments including sampling of air, water, and soil for regulatory compliance monitoring requirements, Plant operating permits, and waste characterization. Coordinates between various Pantex Plant departments and State regulatory agencies to facilitate sampling events. Ensures sampling technicians possess the experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities to operate a variety of environmental monitoring and laboratory equipment and instruments, and to independently conduct routine and non-routine tests and inspections, sampling, monitoring, and other data collection activities. Section Manager ensures that personnel are trained and qualified to perform assigned functions and are given proper instructions to comply with all health and safety requirements. Responsible for developing and maintaining specific sampling and quality assurance procedures for the sampling group. Establishes goals and expectations, and prioritizes and integrates work within the group. Assigns staff based on job-specific skill requirements. Typical tasks include pre-sample preparation, sample collection, storage, packaging, and shipping to an on-site laboratory or to the Transportation Department for off-site shipment.
    • Performs annual reviews of sampling and analysis plans (a.k.a data quality objectives (DQOs)) for review of resource requirements and ability to implement in the field. Reviews and coordinates Special Request Sampling (SRS) events. Coordinates frequently with the subcontract laboratory STR and with the Groundwater Hydrologist for record keeping (eg, logbooks) and groundwater sampling and well maintenance activities; attends periodic groundwater meetings to discuss, plan and address groundwater issues.
    • Section Manager identifies, procures, and maintains equipment, supplies, vehicles and equipment needed to support all aspects of the environmental sampling and well maintenance activities. Ensures field and laboratory instruments are calibrated. Serves as Building Manager for Sampling & Analysis work facility. Maintains overall responsibility for facilities, equipment, and building safety systems, and coordinates the maintenance, security, and other support activities as related to facilities, and equipment. Serves as Building Warden for facility in support of Emergency Management requirements.

    Minimum Job Requirements

    • Bachelors' degree in Scientific or Engineering field with at least 5 years of experience in environmental sampling, remediation, long-term stewardship, or similar field.
    • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., High School diploma and 3 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.     Preferred Job Requirements

    • Working knowledge of environmental remediation systems associated with the remediation and closure of environmental contamination release sites.
    • Demonstrated proficiency, experience, and abilities:
      • Scheduling and tracking of assignments performed by sampling technicians.
      • Clear and effective communication through the oral and written word to include regulatory– and DOE-required reports, statements of work, and project plans.
      • Use of ArcGIS a plus.
    • Performance of duties while exercising initiative, independent judgment and discretion under limited supervision

    Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

    Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
