Crane Operator operates a crane to lift, move, load, unload, or position heavy materials or equipment. Performs daily safety and performance checks of crane equipment and may perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating or checking fluid levels. Being a Crane Operator communicates via hand or radio signals to receive or convey instructions. Identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols. Additionally, Crane Operator maintains documentation of activities including time logs and inspection reports to ensure compliance with regulations and operating procedures. Typically requires a high school diploma. May require NCCCO Certification. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Crane Operator works under moderate supervision. Duties:• Operates equipment to perform the required work• Inspects equipment daily, lubricates and performs service• Report equipment problems as they occur• Performs routine maintenance, and minor work on equipment• Adheres to all safety requirements• Assists construction crew with their duties when typical Operator duties are not available. • Promote teamwork and positive communication among employees. • Attend and participate in miscellaneous site meetings, sharing knowledge, information and ideas as needed or requested by Project Superintendent. • Follow directions and work duties assigned by Foreman or Project Superintendent
Skills and Abilities:• Able to read, understand warning signs and safety rules. • Able to read and understand construction drawings• Able to take and understand measurement. • Able to read grades on construction stakes• Totally versed in proper safe operation of equipment that he/she may be assigned to. • Able to calculate/estimate the weights or loads and proper rigging for handling with a crane. • Judge distances and slopes accurately • Effectively communicate verbally with co-workers and engage in a positive manner. • Manage one’s time and deal with problems that arise.

Work is often performed outside under any type of weather conditions. Exposure to varying degrees/amounts of heat, cold, dust, dampness, ice, precipitation, and mud.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to: Climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders; use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects and materials; lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds repetitively to meet the physical demands of our industry. Stand or walk, stoop kneel crouch and crawl for long periods of time. Must have acceptable vision (either naturally or with correction)
