Crane Operator operates a crane to lift, move, load, unload, or position heavy materials or equipment. Performs daily safety and performance checks of crane equipment and may perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating or checking fluid levels. Being a Crane Operator communicates via hand or radio signals to receive or convey instructions. Identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols. Additionally, Crane Operator maintains documentation of activities including time logs and inspection reports to ensure compliance with regulations and operating procedures. Typically requires a high school diploma. May require NCCCO Certification. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Crane Operator works under moderate supervision. Responsibilities:
- Operate a crane to lift, move, and position heavy loads in a safe and efficient manner
- Inspect and maintain the crane to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while operating the crane
- Communicate with team members to coordinate lifting operations
- Load and unload materials from trucks or other vehicles using the crane
- Move materials within the warehouse or construction site using the crane
- Assist with rigging and securing loads for lifting
Skills:
- Proficiency in operating various types of cranes, such as mobile cranes or tower cranes
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems for tracking inventory and materials
- Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes in a warehouse setting
- Ability to operate other equipment, such as pallet jacks, clamp trucks, order pickers, cherry pickers, etc.
- Mechanical knowledge to perform basic maintenance and repairs on the crane
- Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot any issues that may arise during operations
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and work in physically demanding environments
