Cost Accounting Manager ensures that costs for the company's products and services are allocated according to corporate procedures and in compliance financial accounting standards. Oversees the cost control systems, manages and interprets cost audits, and prepares cost accounting reports for presentation to top management. Being a Cost Accounting Manager gathers historical cost data (materials, labor, depreciation, operating expenses, etc.), to compare budgets with actual expenses. Manages the cost accounting staff to complete projects. Additionally, Cost Accounting Manager requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to a Director. The Cost Accounting Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met, adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. From plant genetics to the cannabis retail experience under the Mission Dispensary brand, 4Front's team applies expertise across the entire cannabis value chain.The Cost Accounting Manager position will be responsible for analyzing complex financial records and reports, regulating, and authenticating financial transactions, balancing accounts and be an instrumental contributor to the Company's cost accounting and analysis processes. This role will report to the Controller and as a key member of the Finance team, they must have a thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and cost accounting procedures, including preparing month-end reports, financial forecasts and inventory cost modelling.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
- Subject matter expert for cost and inventory accounting as well as internal management reporting.
- Complete month-end closing procedures relating to inventory and other accounting cycles as assigned.
- Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations, internal and external cost models, SKU profitability analysis and other reporting as needed.
- Partner with cross-functional Operations groups to provide robust cost estimates, monthly KPI's and other process improvements to drive the growth of the business.
- Analyze financial and operational data and turn the associated trends into invaluable insights to impact business decisions.
- Prepare, document and/or update existing SOPs on inventory and costing processes to ensure SOX compliance as well as internal control best practices.
- Work with auditors by providing necessary/requested support to facilitate financial and compliance audits.
- Ad Hoc analysis and reporting
- Maintain a strong partnership with management, identifying cost-saving opportunities, process improvements and automation.
- Provide financial, operational, and cost analysis support for management.
- Assist with preparation of quarterly Audit Committee materials.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors in an office setting.
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, telephone, calculator, copy, and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
- Occasional travel to/from meetings and to various locations
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
*NOTE: The facility contains confined spaces that may only be accessible by ascending/descending stairwells while traveling throughout the building. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, bend, kneel, squat, and twist. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.SKILLS & COMPETENCIES- Advanced knowledge of inventory valuations, cost modelling and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP").
- Self-starter with a strong desire to drive the continuous improvement of our cost accounting function.
- Strong financial analysis skills
- Ability to prepare financial reports and give recommendations based on available data.
- Superior knowledge of financial reporting software tools and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to perform risk and internal control assessments.
- In-depth knowledge of financial guidelines and regulations
- Excellent attention to detail
- Effective communication, including writing, speaking and active listening.
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- 5 years of accounting experience (inventory/cost accounting required)
- CPA (preferred)
- Strong Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and data management skills
- Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure in an agile, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work autonomously while providing effective communication to leadership.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills and superior accounting skills
- Highly responsive and reliable
- Strong attention to detail
- 21 and currently residing in the US.
