The person filling this position will divide their time between the day-to-day accounting needs of the agency and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. You will need to understand standard business accounting in addition to grants, state and federal funding, and financial audits. You will be a valuable member of the agency’s finance and bond team and will receive on-the-job training and professional development.
Summary of Work:
As an Accountant, you will be part of our fiscal team. The duties of the successful candidate will include:
- Create daily entries in the agency’s accounting system to accurately record the financial transactions.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining accurate agency accounting records.
- Monitor daily bank transactions to ensure proper recording in the agency’s general ledger and to ensure funds are adequately maintained.
- Oversee accounts payable process including analyzing invoices from vendors to determine propriety of invoice items and required accounting treatment in accordance with applicable policies and procedures (OMB Fiscal Policy, GAAP, GASB and federal grant requirements).
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations and prepare subsidiary schedule reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements for the multiple departments within the agency.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer with monthly analysis of departmental financial statements.
- Prepare federal draw requests and maintain federal funds subsidiary accounts and assist with the preparation of required reports.
- Prepare documentation and reports for the agency’s annual financial audit.
- Responsible for fixed asset and equipment records and proper disposal of fixed assets and equipment.
- The position is also responsible for the records management of the accounting division.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance AND
- Three years of professional accounting or financial auditing experience. A master’s degree in accountancy or Certified Public Accountant license may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
- Successful completion of the interview process, reference checks, and background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Financial accounting experience.
- Federal grant accounting experience.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work in a complex and fast paced environment independently and as part of a team.
