PURPOSE:
Summary:
1. Reviews, analyzes, reconciles and records transactions. Ensures timely processing of accounting information pertaining to related transactions. Provides timely accounting information and analytical support as required. Maintains knowledge of SMECO systems.
2. Assists in the preparation of accounting records, financial and statistical data and reporting in compliance with applicable internal controls, policies and procedures. Provides audit schedules on assigned accounts and assists with the annual audit.
THE JOB FUNCTION INCLUDES:
Responsibilities:
1. Reviews current inventory/purchase related business practices and monitors adherence to operational procedures, makes recommendations for and implements process improvements. Maintains supporting worksheets and documentation, and oversees the proper accounting for associated transactions. Works on training for new staff and refresher training for existing employees. Required to have interface and system configuration knowledge for Fixed Asset and Accounting systems. VALUE:25 %
2. Maintains oversight of Truck Stock Inventory - tracks scrap/salvage materials as well as small tools inventory. Validates that non-inventory items are accounted for appropriately. VALUE: 10%
3. Works with warehouse and purchasing personnel on the handling of physical and obsolete inventory and cycle counts, and closes the Inventory and Purchase Order systems monthly as part of the month-end close process. VALUE: 25%
4. Responsible for preparing account reconciliations and assisting in the completion of monthly and annual financial audit work papers relative to all inventory and purchase related accounts. Ensures compliance with invoice approval processes and limits. Responsible for tracking of requisitions and purchase orders. Performs annual random audits relating to accounts payable vendors; reviews/validates large vendor spend. VALUE: 25%
5. Prepares bank reconciliations in a backup capacity. Assists in compiling information for the Form 990 and FERC Form 1. Maintains long-term debt amortization schedules and related schedules for interest to include the preparation of year-end entries and budget data. Assists management during the annual audit process including year-end financial statement preparation. Provides support to CFO, Controller, Directors and Managers on budget, tax returns, and other accounting needs. Performs other duties as assigned. VALUE: 15%

Other information:
Minimum Education:
Four-year college degree required with emphasis in accounting or business.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in an accounting position with demonstrated personal computer (PC), planning, organizational, communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Experience with physical inventory purchasing processes required.
