Correctional Officer, Sr. enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer, Sr. oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer, Sr. documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Firearms Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Mission Statement:

    The Mission Statement of the Wyoming County Correctional Facility is established as follows:

    Wyoming County Correctional Facility is part of the criminal justice system in Wyoming County.  Its primary function is to detain inmates as ordered by the courts in a manner that assures maximum possible safety for the public, the correctional staff and its population.

    The facility shall provide a holding area for pre-trial and post-trial detainees.

    The facility shall provide punishment of sentenced offenders through the act of incarceration.

    The facility shall provide the opportunity for programs, treatment and interaction that will prepare the person for responsible community living.  Among these programs are religious training and worship, education, recreation, work programs, and health services.

    The facility shall be planned, developed, built, and established to meet the requirements of the United States Constitution, Pennsylvania Constitution and relevant Federal and Pennsylvania Statutory and Case Law.

    General Definition:

    • This is work in maintaining order, supervision of conduct and providing nonprofessional counseling of residents in the Wyoming County Correctional Facility on assigned shifts. Shifts shall be assigned by the warden in a nondiscriminatory manner regardless of sex, race, etc.

    • An employee in this position is responsible for the prevention of escape, maintaining discipline and providing advice and guidance in assisting residents in their adjustment to a correctional environment, as well as getting them involved in programs offered by the institution.

    • Employees are responsible for control of keys, maintaining log books and other internal records of residents’ activities as required by the facility.  Work is preformed in accordance with written rules, regulations and special oral instructions of the Warden/Deputy Warden/Lieutenant/ Administrative Staff or their designee who reviews work by inspections.
