Correctional Officer enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Responsibilities: - Monitor and supervise inmates within the correctional facility - Conduct regular security checks and inspections - Enforce rules and regulations to maintain order and discipline - Respond quickly and appropriately to any incidents or emergencies - Conduct searches of inmates, cells, and common areas - Maintain accurate records and write detailed reports - Operate CCTV systems to monitor inmate activity - Escort inmates to various locations within the facility - Assist with inmate transportation when necessary Skills: - Strong knowledge of law enforcement procedures and practices - Excellent conflict management skills to handle potentially volatile situations - Proficient in report writing and maintaining accurate records - Possess a valid certification in CPR and First Aid - Familiarity with operating CCTV systems is preferred - Ability to work effectively in a team environment - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Requirements: - Must be at least 18 years old (or as required by state regulations) - High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional education or training) - Successful completion of a background check and drug screening - Ability to pass physical fitness requirements - Willingness to undergo training in corrections procedures and policies We offer competitive pay rates, comprehensive benefits packages, and opportunities for career advancement.
