Correctional Officer enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Mandatory overtime may be required.Per Bona Fide Occupational Qualification Requirements - There are immediate FEMALE ONLY vacancies on all islands.IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS: Tests will be administered either on your respective island: Oahu, Big Island, Maui, and Kauai OR all applicants may be required to travel to Oahu to complete. The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation will notify all qualified applicants of the testing location, date, time, and other requirements via email. If traveling is required to test, applicants will be responsible for all costs associated with the travel. It should be noted that multiple tests will be administered on a back-to-back basis on a given day.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
    The Adult Corrections Officer Recruit initially receives training and orientation in basic security and custodial duties; performs security and custodial duties at a variety of posts as assigned; and performs other related duties as assigned. As training progresses, the incumbent will eventually be independently responsible on an assigned shift at any post for maintaining the safekeeping and control of adult residents in group quarters and individual activities.
