Correctional Officer enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     JOB DUTIES:
    This, non-sworn position, under the direction of the Sheriff and the general supervision of the Jail Administrator, will perform a variety of duties including regularly and predictably reporting for work, maintaining security and control in the jail, intervening to stop disturbances, administering first aid, conducting searches and inspections, surveillance of inmates, care and custody of inmates, and preparing reports and other paperwork. Correctional Officers are required to work weekends, nights, holidays and overtime as shift rotations dictate.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Must be at least 18 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent; valid Wisconsin driver’s license; no felony convictions, satisfactory completion of all required training during time period as established by the agency; strong written and verbal communications skills; experience with and knowledge of computers; ability to work in confined area under stressful situations. 120 hour jail certification is preferred but not required. Must complete a one year probationary period.

    Wage:

    This is a full-time, hourly position starting at $20.44- $21.61 per hour. Eligible for Lincoln County fringe benefits.
