  • Position Description

    As the Director of Integrated Communications reporting to the Vice President of Strategy, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of creative individuals and overseeing the development and execution of integrated communication strategies for our clients. You will drive effective communication campaigns across multiple channels and ensure seamless integration of various communication disciplines. Your expertise in public relations, marketing, branding, digital media, and advertising will be essential to deliver comprehensive and impactful communication solutions. You will serve as a leader, mentor, and advocate for a diverse and dedicated team of client services professionals. As a management team member, you will be a strategic partner to drive outstanding operational planning, innovation, and business development.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement integrated communication strategies aligned with clients' goals and objectives. Identify target audiences, key messages, and appropriate communication channels.

    2. Client Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor and understanding their business needs. Collaborate closely with clients to provide strategic counsel and ensure effective communication solutions.

    3. Team Leadership: Lead a team of communication professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support. Foster a collaborative and creative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.

    4. Campaign Development: Oversee the development and execution of integrated communication campaigns across various channels, including public relations, social media, digital marketing, advertising, and events. Ensure consistent messaging and brand representation.

    5. Digital and Social Media: Stay abreast of digital marketing trends and leverage various digital platforms to enhance brand visibility and engagement. Develop and implement social media strategies to drive audience growth and improve online presence.

    6. Measurement and Analysis: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication campaigns. Provide regular reporting and analysis to clients, highlighting results and making recommendations for improvement.

    7. Budget and Expense Management: Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, adherence to financial targets, and return on investment (ROI) to achieve the goals and objectives of Octane’s strategic plan.

    8. Business Development: Drive new and expand current business development initiatives by identifying and evaluating new opportunities for growth, developing pitches and proposals, and expanding the company's customer base.

    Requirements

    • Strong media relations, issues management, crisis communications skills, and a knowledge base in digital communications, website, and social media.
    • Excellent written and verbal skills and demonstrated success drafting and placing statements, press releases, and op-eds
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
    • Exceptional strategic thinking and planning abilities, with a track record of developing successful communication strategies.
    • Ability to act quickly and effectively under pressure and experience making prudent decisions and taking appropriate action in uncharted situations
    • Ability to work well with competing priorities and manage projects involving multiple people from across the department and organization
    • Ability to analyze and interpret data and provide actionable insights
    • Attention to detail and accuracy

    Education and Related Work Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year institution required (Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field preferred); Master’s degree preferred
    • Proven experience (minimum of 8 years) in integrated communications, preferably within an agency environment
    • Well-rounded marketing experience – 5-7 years in positions of increasing responsibility
    • Proven leadership experience (minimum of 5 years) managing or directing a diverse integrated communications team (6-8 direct reports preferred) and demonstrated ability to empower
    • Demonstrated track record of success and performance

    • Develops comprehensive awareness of and relationships with staff, stakeholders, and clients to effectively deliver marketing and communications strategies in support of strategic goals and objectives
    • Defines, articulates, and implements marketing communications strategies to elevate awareness and understanding of the organization’s mission, goals, and activities for revenue- and mission-driven activities
    • Oversees the planning, development, and execution of omnichannel marketing strategies for new and existing clients, driving meaningful progress and growth
    • Works directly with executive-level clients to validate and regularly update strategic objectives as needed and fosters a high degree of stakeholder engagement through externally facing omnichannel marketing and communications mechanisms
    • Collaborates with colleagues to ensure strategic, integrated planning, execution, and analysis to optimize efficient operations and impact
    • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, retaining, and supervising individuals in the team and providing coaching, mentoring, and feedback to team members
    • Shapes data ROI reporting to provide insights on attribution and campaigns.
    • Leverages data to perform analytics and drive data-based decision-making
    • Manages budget responsibilities as appropriate to minimize expenses, meet business goals, and maximize ROI
    • Performs general market research to keep abreast of trends, marketing and communications movements, and analysis to remain competitive
    • Establishes, communicates, and implements best practices across all marketing and communications capabilities
