    Summary:

    The primary purpose of this position is to develop and lead implementation of corporate EHS programs related to safety, occupational health, air, land, water, and waste. These programs support the global organization and EHS strategy, allowing for the effective management of risks to prevent occupational incidents, negative environmental impacts, and non-compliance.

     

    This position collaborates with the Corporate EHS Manager, regional and department EHS managers, and local safety committees and functional departments, including engineering, claims, human resources, legal, and enterprise learning.

     

    The position provides EHS subject matter expertise and requires technical and functional professional leadership within and outside the company.

     

    The position has the responsibility to identify and recommend action to management to reduce the risk of EHS exposures. The position also has the responsibility to support local management in the implementation of policies and programs to mitigate such exposure in accordance with local laws and corporate strategy.

     

    The manager manages staff members to achieve goals and provides mentorship to promote individual development.

     

    The manager must be familiar with (and stay current on changes to) EHS regulations applicable to the FM Global organization and ensure EHS programs are compliant with legal obligations.

     

    Schedule & Location:

    This is a full-time, on-site position based out of our corporate headquarters in Johnston, RI. The employee will have some flexibility for remote work based on manager approval and business needs. Start and stop times are flexible yet based on business need.

    Responsibilities

    Strategy and Planning:

    • Identify applicable regulatory and training programs needed, and ensure they are implemented.
    • Establish, maintain, and communicate EHS policies and procedures.
    • Develop EHS management systems elements to ensure continuous improvement of EHS programs.
    • Support strategies for managers to integrate EHS programs into processes and practices across the business.
    • Develop action plans and set priorities for implementation.
    • Ensure EHS training programs are developed, appropriate staff are trained, and training is documented.
    • Stay current on safety and environmental technical and regulatory issues.

    Program Development:

    • Development and implementation of corporate policies, standards, procedures and training covering, but not limited to, risk assessment, compliance assurance, emergency preparedness, field safety, contractor safety, confined space, hazardous energy control, elevated work, working surfaces, industrial hygiene, medical surveillance, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, electrical, ergonomics, biological hazards, radiation, driving, and powered industrial vehicles, air, water, and waste management.

     

    Compliance Assurance:

    • Ensure EHS audit and inspection programs are in place and comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.

     

    EHS Committees & Teams:

    • Participates in EHS committees, team audits, and incident investigations.

    Qualifications

    Required Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in occupational health and safety, environmental science, science, or engineering.

     

    Required Work Experience:

    • 7 years of related work experience.
    • Evidence of career progression and leadership role(s) in EHS.

     

    Highly Preferred Work Experience:

    • 10 years of related work experience.
    • 2 years of people management experience.
    • Multi-industry manufacturing, facility or factory management, or major construction project work experience.
    • Developing and managing global safety programs.
    • Work experience in multi-location, matrixed organizations.

     

    Required Skills:

    • Thorough understanding of U.S. safety and environmental regulation.
    • Working knowledge of global safety and environmental regulatory schemes.
    • Superior written and oral communication.
    • Experience designing, developing, and implementing EHS programs and training.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with and influence others, with or without direct authority, to achieve results.
    • Adept at balancing strategic leadership and tactical/operational execution.
    • Ability to research, investigate and analyze information and exercise sound judgment in determining appropriate actions.
    • Experience with using EHS management software.
    • Proficient computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or other presentation software.

     

    Highly Preferred Skills:

    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
    • Public speaking.

     

    The hiring range for this position is $130,700.00 – $187,800.00 annually. The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
