Corporate Ethics & Compliance Specialist supports and coordinates the activities of the organization's global ethics and compliance function. Assists with the delivery and maintenance of programs to assess and manage legal and regulatory compliance risks and establish high ethical standards of conduct for the organization. Being an Corporate Ethics & Compliance Specialist prepares materials that communicate the organization's ethical standards, policies, and regulations. Supports or delivers employee training programs that raise awareness about ethics-related topics such as Anti-Bribery, Anti-Corruption, Antitrust, Conflicts of Interest, and others. Additionally, Corporate Ethics & Compliance Specialist generates reports of compliance monitoring statistics, investigations, outcomes, and remediations of any non-compliant actions. May administer reporting systems or helplines for employees, customers, contractors, and other stakeholders to disclose violations of the organization's ethical standards, violations of law, or policies without fear of retaliation. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Corporate Ethics & Compliance Specialist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     The Public Engagement Specialist interacts with all levels of the organization and focuses on political compliance. The position is within the Ethics & Compliance group, which works to strengthen the company’s ethics and compliance profile for FirstEnergy’s operating companies. The team interacts with various functions to promote trust and respect, manage ethics and compliance risks, promote ethical business conduct, develop policies, procedures, and controls, and manage complaints and concerns. The team also performs risk assessments, conducts investigations, coordinates training, and manages ethics and compliance communications. 

    This is a REMOTE position. 

    Responsibilities 

    • Providing day-to-day support for Political Compliance initiatives and continuous improvement 
    • Assisting in the development and build-out of the Ethics & Compliance Political Compliance program
    • Assisting in the build-out, iteration and execution of policies, procedures, and controls related to charitable and political giving
    • Monitoring business activities and providing guidance to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations related to charitable and political giving
    • Assisting in the coordination of other functions to identify, communicate, and document key laws and regulations applicable to company interactions with the charitable and political entities
    • Monitoring political mandates and applicable laws, rules and regulations related to charitable and political giving
    • Assisting in preparing and filling lobbying registration and disclosure reports 
    • Monitoring and tracking charitable and political contributions to ensure compliance 
    • Interacting with outside counsel on compliance investigations, political/charitable ethics matters, and conflicts of interest
    • Assisting Legal and Business Unit responses to government agency inquiries and investigations related to charitable and political giving
    • Supporting prevention, detection, and correction of non-compliance with regulatory requirements related to charitable and political giving
    • Supporting Political Advisor as necessary to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations within the political landscape
    • Any employee hired at the E&C Specialist III level will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the E&C Specialist III level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those above.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline is required
    • Minimum 2-4 years relevant work experience is required. Relevant experience includes communications plan development, campaign design and execution, or similiar
    • Demonstrated project management experience preferred
    • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Knowledge of ethical practices and standards within Utilities or Electricity sector 
    • Pragmatic with strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail 
    • Able to build relationship and credibility across the organization

    Qualifications at the E&C Specialist III level include the above plus:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline is required
