The Junior Copywriter position at the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) involves conducting research, crafting, and refining various forms of written communication. This includes promotional materials, marketing collateral, website content, email campaigns, ad copy, video scripts, recruitment publications, social media content, and other materials essential for promoting and enhancing the NHLA brand. Working within the NHLA marketing team, the Junior Copywriter ensures that all messaging aligns seamlessly with the Association's brand and voice.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer for daily duties and responsibilities, the Junior Copywriter collaborates closely with the Art Director and Digital Media Specialist to deliver cohesive and impactful communication materials. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of NHLA's mission and objectives. The Junior Copywriter will contribute significantly to enhancing NHLA's presence and effectiveness in the hardwood industry.
Responsibilities
o In this role, you will leverage your strong interest in content strategy, promotional storytelling and enthusiasm in the hardwood industry space to create impactful campaigns that resonate with our target audience and contribute to the overall growth of the Association and our programs.
o Develop compelling and persuasive copy for marketing materials, emails, landing pages, and promotional campaigns tailored to our individual offerings.
o Maintain consistency in brand voice and messaging guidelines across all written content.
o Develop a deep understanding of the hardwood industry, and target audience personas to create copy that resonates with their needs, preferences and pain points.
o Work within the Marketing & Communications team to ensure that content is shared and repackaged for different media and across multiple storytelling channels.
o Write and disseminate press releases, media alerts, white papers, and informational documents.
o Research, conduct interviews and write content for websites, feature articles for monthly magazine, and blog.
o Proofreading and speech writing as assigned
o Constantly researching and expanding knowledge of the hardwood industry – discovering trends, hot topics and bringing that research to the table for contribution as it relates to creating content, educational opportunities and member value propositions.
o Other duties as assigned
Required skills/knowledge
o A joy of writing, research, a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills.
o Solid understanding of written English and grammar as well as command of AP Style.
o Essential interviewing skills – an ability to embrace what you don’t know and be geniuniely curious.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Ability to multitask, hit deadlines and quickly pivot when schedules change.
o Competence as a marketing/creative writer with excellent copywriting skills.
o Able to excel independently and in a team environment.
o Solid understanding of SEO.
o Familiarity with direct-response marketing principles and strategies.
o The right candidate will be a quick learner with a versatile writing style and an inclination for short-form copy.
o Hands-on experience with WordPress would be a bonus.
o Knowledge of other languages (ie. Spanish) would be a bonus.
o Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field. A current undergraduate/graduate student experience would be considered.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
