    Within OMA&D is the College Access unit that implements programs focused on expanding access for underserved communities by partnering with K-12 school districts, two-year colleges, and community coalitions. The Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, Rural Initiatives in STEM Education and Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP RISE UP) is the largest college access program serving middle and high school students.

    The University of Washington GEAR UP RISE UP serves 8,000 students throughout Washington State. The goal of GEAR UP RISE UP is to increase student college-going rates and preparedness by enhancing educational environments and creating sustainable programs at the middle school and high school grade levels. The focus is on interventions/activities that intentionally provide students with opportunities which is designed to help low-income and first-generation students succeed in middle school and high school, enroll in college, and obtain a degree in a STEM field.     This position is a federal grant-funded position. This position is located at the GEAR UP RISE UP office in Toppenish, WA and requires travel in Yakima, Grant, Kittitas, and Skagit Valley counties, as well as occasional statewide and national travel. In addition, this program offers residential programming in the summer and overnight college visits throughout the year.

    POSITION PURPOSE
    The Program Coordinator (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv) is the program’s initial point of contact for stakeholders and the community at large. In addition to performing the duties of a program assistant, the Program Coordinator works independently to maintain and track a large and complex budget and contracts to provide effective and timely administrative support to the Director and Associate Director. The coordinator is the communications and information hub for our extensive network of school district and community based partners, developing, distributing and posting schedules, announcements, and other information critical to the successful administration of a multimillion – multiyear Department of Education grant

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Purchases equipment, supplies and services as directed.
    • Monitor program activities in relation to established program goals; within established program parameters, determine variance from program standards.
    • Work with GEAR UP team and school based and community partners to organize and implement program activities and large events for students and families including STEM summer programs, Senior Signing Days, Parent Academy, Affinity Programs, Spring Break and Midwinter Break programming, and Financial Aid workshops. Use word processing, graphics, statistical, spreadsheet and/or data base software for program services.
    • Perform complex scheduling including independently prioritizing needs of program clients. Compose correspondence, printed materials, and/or news releases related to program policies, procedures, and operations; edit materials for accuracy, appearance, readability, and style. Coordinate arrangements for program activities such as meetings, conferences, and other logistic events
    • Confer regularly with representatives of off-campus organizations and agencies regarding the interpretation and implementation of UW’s federally funded GEAR UP program and monitor program activities in relation to grant goals. This includes partnerships with NCCEP and other National GEAR UP and college access partners.
    • Provide information and advice to students, staff, program participants and/or the public regarding program content, policies and activities, recommend alternative courses of action; promote the program on campus with outside organizations. Assists with the maintenance and distribution of on-line multimedia/website/social platforms.
    • Monitor budget status in line with program activities, plans or priorities; maintain program budgets; sign vouchers; receive, process and deposit funds; assist in the preparation of grants and grant proposals.
    • Accurately manage, upload, monitor, and approve school invoices, budgets, budget revisions, and workplan revisions.
    • Establish and maintain records and files; project, monitor, maintain, and approve sub-award budgets and provide monthly budget projections to grant partners, staff, and leadership.
    • Compose written communications and establish and maintain records relating to program operations.
    • Processes purchase orders, invoices, travel arrangements and reimbursements in accordance with university and office policy.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty: educational programs that serve middle/high school/or college students from underrepresented minority, low income or first-generation backgrounds, college and career access, financial aid, admissions OR equivalent education/experience.
