    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Under the direction of the program leads, provide coordination and organizational support for Mellon Foundation grant activities and outreach to Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in the area of environmental humanities and environmental justice (EHEJ).
    • Coordinate and run three year-long hybrid Pedagogical Lab (Lab) seminars addressing a key theme, issue or concept at the intersection of EHEJ and AAPI studies, collaboratively identified and focused on community need.
    • Coordinate collaboration and networking with community partners and organizations.
    • Coordinate the production and dissemination of pedagogical materials that result from the Lab.
    • Organize the EHEJ forum, to include issuing invitations, booking rooms, arranging refreshments, and keeping records.
    • Coordinate a series of professional development activities for UHM students and junior faculty, including roundtables, informal talk-story sessions, and visits from faculty members located on the continental US.
    • Coordinate the production of outreach and publicity materials, including video and social media posts.
    • Work outside of business hours including evenings, weekends and / or holidays as directed.
    • Participate in monthly meetings with project leads and related faculty and staff, and in annual project review activities.
    • Collect data, organize, develop, and maintain a database of quantitative records and program activities to conduct program evaluation and grant reporting to university and funding agencies.
    • Effectively resolve operational and administrative matters in accordance with current policies, procedures and directives.
    • Prepare paperwork for processing fiscal transactions (travel reimbursements, honoraria, food forms, etc.).
    • Keeps abreast of University, State, and Federal rules, practices, and policies which are applicable to academic and research endeavors.
    • Supervises graduate assistants, coordinating schedules and coordinating their various work responsibilities.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Possession of a baccalaureate degree in an Arts & Sciences, Social Sciences or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program coordination / event planning;

    or any equivalent combination of education and / or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

    • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of program coordination / event planning as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
    • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with program coordination / event planning.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, spreadsheets, databases, and other record keeping software.
    • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
    • Demonstrated experience organizing conferences, workshops, or seminars;
    • Demonstrated experience coordinating outreach and public relations activities;
    • Experience using social media for publicity and organizational communications.
    • Ability to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as directed.

    Desired Qualifications :

    • Advanced degree in a Humanities, Social Sciences or related field
    • Connections and commitments to Pacific Islander and / or Southeast Asian communities in Hawai i or the continental US.
    • Research or work experience in the fields of environmental justice or environmental humanities.
    • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse groups of faculty, students and community members.
    • Familiarity with UHM financial management systems.
    • Knowledge of University and State of Hawai'i policies, procedures and laws.
