    This job announcement is for multiple Group Life Coordinator 2 positions (GLC2). These are permanent full-time state positions located at the Oregon Youth Challenge Program in Bend, Oregon. This position is classified as a Group Life Coordinator 2; however, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications of the Group Life Coordinator 1 to apply (Salary Range $2926.00 - $4266.00 monthly). We may underfill the position until the selected candidate fulfills the minimum qualifications for the Group Life Coordinator 2 Classification.     These positions are represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union.

    What You Will be Doing
    We are looking for people with outstanding qualities of leadership, integrity, moral character, and professionalism. The primary purpose of this position is to provide daily supervision, leadership, guidance, and direction to Cadets enrolled in the Oregon Youth ChalleNGe Program. Group Life Coordinators (Cadre) are responsible for ensuring cadet compliance with policies and procedures in areas such as physical training, academics, health & hygiene, military standards, service to the community, and daily living.

    This position performs the following major duties

    • Responsible for the care, control, safety and security of youth in a 24/7 facility
    • Supervise youth with emphasis on safety, personal growth, teamwork and the program’s eight core components. Promote positive youth development by establishing healthy professional relationships, role-modeling desired professional behaviors, maintaining an exceptional uniform appearance and ensuring a safe training environment.
    • Monitoring and reporting the behavior of cadets during daily activities, offsite community projects, academic instruction, meals and extracurricular activities.
    • Work effectively with youth who may have social, economic, emotional, or behavioral challenges. Assist youth in developing short and long-term goals, overcoming obstacles, conflict resolution and developing life skills.
    • Plans, leads and participates in daily physical fitness activities which includes running and calling cadence.
    • Provides classroom instruction on a variety of topics related to program standards and character development

    Working Conditions: Must be able to work under the following condition with or without reasonable accommodations:

    • This Position is subject to shift work. Employees must be willing to work beyond established core hours/days when necessary to accomplish program activities and requirements, including responding to emergency situations in a reasonable amount of time when they involve cadet health, safety, or security.
    • Required to work various shifts, days, swing, graveyard, weekends and holidays and subject to occasional overnight travel. May come in contact with irate students, parents and the general public. Required to transport students in State-owned vehicles.
    • Extensive walking, regular marching, and running with youth. This position requires being on your feet and standing for long durations.
    • Occasional lifting and physical exertion are necessary to perform assigned tasks and duties.

    Occasional exposure to adverse weather and environmental conditions.

    What You Need to Qualify

    GLC2 Qualifications:

    You must be 21 years of age.

    -AND-

    You must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate, or other proof of education at the same or higher level.

    -AND-

    1 year experience observing, evaluating, developing, or understanding of human performance, relations and interactions.

    ***OR***

    A Certificate or Associate degree from an accredited school in a behavioral science, education, criminal justice, or related degree.

    ***OR***

    1 year of Prior military experience, law enforcement or corrections experience.

    NOTE: Must be able to pass a physical fitness standard in accordance with program requirements.

    Fitness Testing

    Pass all physical fitness testing in accordance with program requirements as stated below:

    • Sit and Stand (Pass / Fail)
    • Bend and Reach (Pass / Fail) Bear Crawl (Pass / Fail)
    • Ladder Climb 150lb Drag: 50 Feet in 2 minutes.
    • Push-ups: (Males: 25 in 2 minutes / Females: 10 in 2 minutes)
    • Sit-ups: 30 repetitions in 2 minutes
    • One-Mile Run: (Males: Less than 12 minutes / Females: Less than 14 minutes

    GLC1 Qualifications

    You must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate, or other proof of education at the same or higher level.

    NOTE: Must be able to pass a physical fitness standard in accordance with program requirements. (Please see Fitness Testing Above).

    NOTE: Successful graduation from the Oregon Youth Challenge Program will be considered for 5 months towards experience.

    Additional Requirements

    Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. NOTE: If applying from out of state, please be prepared to provide a 3-year driving abstract from your local Department of Motor Vehicles.

    • Pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check.

    All employees in this classification/position, shall be subject to testing for the use of prohibited drugs and must pass employment drug screening test.

    Conditions of Employment

    • Must obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain a CPR/First Aid Certification.
    • Must obtain (within 90 days of hire) and maintain a Commercial Driver License (CDL)

    Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with OMD Drug/Alcohol CPM’s, Policies, and the Statewide Drug Free Workplace Policy 50-000-01

    • Must maintain physical fitness standards as described above (tested annually)
    • Maintain military style grooming standards.
    • Wear a modified military uniform and safety equipment as required.

    Must have and maintain a favorable background check history.
