The outreach arm of USDA and the American land-grant university system, Cooperative Extension takes the University to the people with programming that includes but is not limited to food safety; nutrition, diet, and health; 4-H and youth development; sustainable agriculture; home gardening; financial and resource management; leadership and volunteer development.

    This position will work specifically with the Nutrient Management Program. The goal of the Nutrient Management Program is to improve water quality in Delaware while maintaining the profitability of agriculture and other businesses involved in land application of nutrients. Under the general direction of the Nutrient Management Specialist (Professor, Plant and Soil Sciences), the Program Coordinator will provide day to day support of operations and manage specific programs in support of the Specialist. A limited amount of direct educational programming will occur around nutrient management. This is a grant-funded position and reappointment will be contingent on availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Prepare marketing materials and strategies for promotion of agricultural nutrient management related Extension programs.
    • Use social media, newsletters and other avenues to promote the nutrient management programing and educational materials.
    • Attend and coordinate nutrient certification sessions and continuing education programs.
    • Maintain weekly e-newsletter to constituents through use of Constant Contact software.
    • Plan, implement, and evaluate nutrient management certification sessions and continuing education programs under the direction of the Extension Specialist and/or Agent.
    • Manage registration for all relevant University events via the provided software platform for venue and event management.
    • Respond to phone and email inquiries regarding nutrient management certification, continuing education, and other relevant Cooperative Extension events.
    • Provide administrative support for the annual Ag Week conference, as related to nutrient management continuing education credits.
    • Generate continuing education credit sheets for in-person partner programs, generate attendance quizzes for virtual partner programs (if necessary), and enter credits upon return.
    • Provide program support through mailings, data management, website updates and photocopying.
    • Provide technical and logistical support for the annual Mid-Atlantic Crop Management School Conference.
    • Keep accurate records, manage program data and documentation regarding program attendance and supplies.
    • Serve on county and state Extension committees, UD College Agriculture and Natural Resources committees, and committees with public and private agencies, local and professional organizations and community leaders as directed by Extension specialist/agent.
    • Represent University of Delaware at Nutrient Management Commission Meetings when assigned.
    • Provide program data required to assist in completing county, state, and national reporting. Follow affirmative action and equal opportunity guidelines to insure equal access to Extension programs.
    • Understand and ensure compliance with UD/CANR/Cooperative Extension policies and procedures.
    • Maintain and improve professional competence through formal and non-formal courses and conferences as well as other professional development opportunities.
    • Responsible for complying with university policies, procedures, and best practices regarding protecting data and following UD data governance rules.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree, and one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in agriculture, natural resources, or a related discipline is preferred.
    • Knowledge of Extension and youth and/or adult education methods.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Familiarity and experience with online communications vehicles, including e-mail, web communications, social media, etc.
    • Strong organizational, management, communication, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to effectively present information on an individual/group basis with a variety of audiences at various educational levels.
    • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

    Special Requirements:

    • Position requires some evening and weekend work.
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation required.

    • Ability to lift with or without assistance, supplies and/or materials weighing up to 50lbs.
