Cooking Assistant prepares raw ingredients for use in recipes. Washes, chops, stores, and handles ingredients. Being a Cooking Assistant prepares portions of ingredients for workstations. May prepare sauces and garnishes or assist cook with basic recipes. Additionally, Cooking Assistant follows all applicable guidelines and regulations for food handling and safety. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Cooking Assistant works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Hours: Monday - Friday daytime hours ranging between 8am - 3pm
Position Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to lead, instruct, and conduct safe and effective healthy cooking and/or wellness education classes and programming including Healthy Cooking in the Classroom. This includes shopping for supplies for each class, providing accurate nutrition information and tips to class participants, travel to host schools, setting up for HCIC classes, advising volunteers/support staff, leading the HCIC lesson, working with students to complete lesson tasks, organizing clean-up and prep for follow-up classes, and communication with host school to include office and kitchen staff, students, and teachers.
Education, Experience, & Skills (Minimum Requirement):
One year experience teaching; wellness education related courses preferred.

This position has a low risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. Training is required upon hire and maintained yearly.
