    The Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) is seeking multiple Institutional Counselor 3’s to work at Maple Lane Forensic Recovery Program (MLFRP) located in Centralia, WA. Our facility houses 30 residents who are adjudicated as not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI) and court ordered to inpatient recovery treatment.

    IC3s will work under the supervision of the Program Specialist 3. By direction of their supervisor and/or treatment team, the IC3 will also support resident(s) psychosocial interventions, document pertinent and necessary information to support resident’s treatment plan, offer support to the various groups or staff escorted community outings (SECO), conduct transportation for resident needs.
     
    As an IC3 you and your team will be a direct care resource to our residents. This may vary from helping in groups, heating and serving meals, light housekeeping, assisting with laundry, facilitating resident vocational programing, driving residents to appointments, going out on staff escorted community outings (SECOs), be the first responders to residents in crisis, and they must communicate effectively to support the needs of the program.

    There are multiple positions available. They are all 10 hours shifts, 4 days per week.

    Some of what you'll do:  

    • Instructs and encourages residents regarding policies, procedures, protocols, and facility rules.
    • Help develop and implement individual and group treatment activities. 
    • Counsel and advise patients, as they participate in the treatment program. 
    • Facilitate or co-facilitate treatment groups and ensure scheduled active treatment and therapy groups are run as scheduled.
    • Provides direct day-to-day monitoring and support of the residential population.
    • Documents resident activities or observations as directed by the treatment team.
    • Communicates with the team to assure resident and employee safety and continuity of care. 
    • Complete progress notes on daily interactions with residents
    • Be a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and actively participate during treatment team meetings in developing resident treatment plans.
    • Assist treatment team and residents while in the community on Staff Escorted Community Outings. 
    We are looking for professionals who have: 
     
    Knowledge of:
    • Principles and practices of good communication, evaluating and monitoring persons or situations, and deciding on proper course of action.
    • Knowledge and recognition of psychiatric symptoms are preferred. 
    • Laws and rules related to competency evaluation and restoration treatment are preferred. 
    • Ability to create positive rapport with their team and the residents. 
    • Must be able to respond appropriately to crisis situations and/or be willing to learn how to do so.
     Ability to:
    • Safely physically intervene with patients exhibiting high-risk behaviors using approved techniques, maintaining optimal mental and physical health and dignity
    • Compile and prepare reports on the client's progress, reactions, and overall adjustment.
    • Effectively and efficiently communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Demonstrate a capacity for compassion and curiosity towards residents. 
    Required License or Certifications:

    • Current CPR card.
    • Current Food Handler's permit within 14 days of employment.  More information can be found here.
    • Agency Affiliated Counselor. Must be applied for within 7 days of employment. More information can be found here. 
    • Must be able to pass a background check through DSHS.
     Who should apply?

    Professionals with a bachelor’s degree preferably involving a major study in psychology, sociology, or other social science;

    AND

    Two years of professional counseling or casework experience or working closely with a psychiatric population in a therapeutic capacity.
     
    One year of graduate training in behavioral social sciences may be substituted year for year for experience;

    OR

    One year as an Institution Counselor 2
    Equivalent combination of education/experience 

    Institutional Counselors are present at the RTF 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Applicants will have an opportunity to express interest in shift preference at the interview.

    Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
