What will I do as a Cook?
- Preparation of high-quality food items according to standardized recipes or instructions in an efficient manner in order to meet production, delivery, and service schedule.
- Ability to read, understand and follow standardized recipes and production sheets. Use Production Worksheets to produce forecasted amounts, use recipes for consistency and take and record food temperatures for all food served. Document the amount prepared and leftover columns to support the Chef with management and ordering of foods.
- Good working knowledge of food preparation, including scratch cooking of soups, gravies, sauces, protein, and vegetable entrees and special diets.
- Requires familiarity with kitchen equipment. Institutional-style cooking preferred but not mandatory
- Read food orders and receive verbal instructions on food required and prepares and cooks food according to instructions, including consulting with Dietitian for special diet production needs
- Perform fast food cooking duties in preparing food items to be served to customers - Short Order
- Provide customers the highest quality of service at all times while interacting positively
with residents and co-workers.
- Follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, cooking soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food items, including baked goods, for consumption in eating establishments.
- Prepare foods by operating various kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry, or fish for culinary use.
- Taste products, reads menus, estimate food requirements, checks production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment.
- Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment and follow HACCP guidelines and regulatory rules and procedures, including temperature and cooling monitoring and recording. Serve meals or prepare for delivery times, using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, and ensuring that all food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty. Taste all food items prepared.
- Properly cover, date, and store all food items in proper containers and storage areas.
- Obtain food supplies from the storeroom or refrigerators. Support organization of storage areas.
- Use all kitchen equipment safely and knowledgeably. Assists in the orientation process and helps train others as necessary.
- Perform position job analysis and daily cleaning tasks as scheduled
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested, including but not limited to special banquets and functions.
- Attend in-service and/or safety meetings as required.
What do I need for the Cook role?
- High School or GED equivalent preferred; or 6 months to 1-year related experience training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in oneon-one and small groups. Ability to present to customers, clients, and employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and l00s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Food Handler's Permit as required by the applicable state.
