$500M/5000 employee Skilled Nursing Management Company based in Buena Park, CA seeks Controller with exceptional analytical, organizational, communication and management skills. The Controller works on the leadership team to build and deliver accurate and timely Financial Statements and Financial Reporting, and develops Accounting Strategies that improve the financial health of the company. The Controller is responsible for accuracy in all Balance Sheet reconciliations, and primarily responsible for submitting data and responses for all Cost Reporting and Financial Audits (GAAP, Cost Reports, Field Exams, etc.). The Controller leads the Accounts Payable department and is responsible for accurate and timely bill-paying, and all related reporting to governmental agencies; as part of this the Controller leads reimbursement efforts and reconciliations (such as insurance reimbursements or HUD impound reimbursement efforts). The Controller is responsible for cash reconciliations and is the primary contact for daily retail banking inquiries (positive pay, check confirmations, etc). The Controller analyzes and understands financial needs and trends, in order to anticipate financial risk to the company and works together with CFO to minimize such risk. Specifically, the Controller is expected to:

• Report to CFO, and work closely with CFO to maintain accurate and timely Accounting.
• Lead, coach, and manage the Accounting Team, including AP (Accounts Payable).
• Direct, oversee, and manage the development, modification, review, and implementation of accounting systems, reporting methods and controls, policies, and procedures
• Responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely Reporting and AP (Accounts Payable).
• Ensure compliance with financial laws and guidelines
• Oversee, monitor, and work to improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and database management (re. the General Ledger, and Financial Planning and Reporting).
• Oversees monthly financial report preparation and analysis
• Analyze trends to reduce the financial risk associated with vendor expenses
• Respond to daily retail banking inquiries; approve wires.
• Active participant in design and implementation of the annual budgeting process
• Recognize patterns in company spending recommend solutions to potential problem areas
• Serve as the primary point of contact for employees, supervisors, and senior management for all accounting-related issues
• Lead preparation and review of annual audited financial statements, cost reports, tax returns and other governmental agency reporting.
• Reviews contracts and participates in negotiations, as necessary.
• Constantly reviews Accounting processes for efficiency, and implements improvements
• Organize Accounting files to ensure easy access and avoid redundancy
• Coordinates and collaborates with AR, Payroll and IT/IS departments, and all other corporate and operational leadership, to ensure accurate and timely accounting.
• Respond to Ownership inquiries, as directed by CFO.
• Other duties as assigned by CFO

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting (CPA highly preferred)
• At least 10 years’ experience in Corporate Accounting (or equivalent)
• At least 5 years' experience in Management of Accounting Staff and functions
• Experience in Skilled Nursing Accounting and Cost Report Audits highly preferred.
• Excellent leadership and analytical abilities, as well as excellent decision-making, business, communication, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and how to apply them to routine and complex accounting tasks
• Ability to work at the Corporate office (at least most days of the work week), and travel to Skilled Nursing facilities when necessary.
• Some work outside of normal working hours might be necessary to meet mandatory deadlines.
• Knowledge of and working experience of Great Plains highly preferred
• Expertise in Excel is a must, as well as other basic Office365 software
• Knowledge of and working experience in Workday Financial Reporting and Budgeting modules is a plus.
