Universal Pure is hiring a Quality & Food Safety Manager as a full time, permanent position in Lincoln, NE.
The Quality & Food Safety Manager develops, implements, and maintains systems and processes for controlling the required level of food safety and quality for all products and services managed by the company. The Manager is responsible for coordinating with production, engineering, warehouse, and sanitation, as well as suppliers and customers, to anticipate and resolve quality problems. The Manager ensures compliance with USDA, FDA, Food Safety, OSHA, HACCP, and other applicable standards.

Quality Processes and Management Responsibilities
• Directly responsible for implementation/Managing of all SQF and Quality programs.
• Responsible for validating changes and verification to food safety and Quality plans that have an impact on the company’s ability to deliver safe and Quality food products.
• Lead all site audits (SQF, USDA, FDA, State, Customer audits)
• Coaching, training, and developing QA personnel to drive a higher performance level
• Create and drive a culture of continuous improvement in the areas of QA by proactively managing to Key Performance indicators (KPIs) to manage risk and drive improvement.
• Establish, monitor, review, and update production standards
• Examine samples of raw products
• Ensure products are of prescribed quality
• Develop sampling procedures
• Develop forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data
• Utilize statistics and other data to evaluate production performance
• Establish and monitor packaging, shipping, and warehousing standard
• Develop and implement tracking and quality control systems
• Use quality control, maintenance, and other operational reports to identify and resolve production problems
• Evaluate operations sequence, material flow, functional statements, organizational charts, and project information to understand worker functions and responsibilities, as they relate to quality
• Ensure product labeling compliance
• Ensure product specifications are current
Food Safety and Quality Management Responsibilities
• Manage and implement Food Safety Management Plans
• Manage HACCP and HARPC programs
• Perform internal audits and liaison to regulatory, customer, and 3rd party audits
• Manage a formal food adulteration prevention program, in alignment with USDA standards
• Document and share procedures to prevent food adulteration by pests, pest evidence, or pesticides
• Manage programs to protect food from adulteration during storage and manufacturing, including:
o Receiving and storing raw materials
o Transferring and handling ingredients
o Operational appearance and practices
o Delivery practices
o Employee practices
• Collaborate with the production managers to develop and implement formal preventive maintenance programs
• Ensure that employees comply with the program
Sanitation Management Responsibilities
• Monitor cleaning practices for the building, grounds, equipment, and utensils
• Maintain the master cleaning schedule
• Prepare sanitation reports
Key Responsibilities:
• Led at minimum 2 SQF audits or other GFSI scheme
• Experience with leading US Department of Agriculture certification audits
• Required certifications:
o HACCP or PCQI
• Preferred certifications:
o Juice HACCP
o Seafood HACCP
o PCQI – Human Consumable o PCQI – Animal Consumable
o Internal auditor
o SQF
Job Qualifications:
• Five or more years of experience in food safety and quality management for a USDA/FDA facility
• Experience managing multiple locations simultaneously is preferred, but not required
• Able to travel to key locations as appropriate (approximately 10%)
• Export familiarity is a plus
• Environmental Monitoring and Sampling Experience is preferred
