Consumer Loan Officer develops and services consumer loans. Interviews loan applicants to determine financing needs and to offer the appropriate loan products and repayment arrangements. Being a Consumer Loan Officer evaluates loan applications and applicant creditworthiness. Once a loan is approved and negotiated, monitors loan payments, and provides customer service to ensure the borrower's questions are answered and needs are met, and that the loan is repaid appropriately. Additionally, Consumer Loan Officer maintains accurate and thorough records, and follows all applicable organizational, state, and federal policies and regulations. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Consumer Loan Officer works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Role: Review consumer and/or mortgage loan applications and make loan decisions according to Credit Union policies. Provide on-the-job loan training for those employees needing assistance. Assists members with their consumer lending needs, analyzing loan requests and making credit decisions based on lending policy. Present a friendly, professional, and personable attitude that communicates to members, staff, and visitors that the credit union is a friendly and professional financial institution.
Experience: Three years’ experience in lending or a related field with equal responsibilities is acceptable. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.
Education: A high school education or GED. Job requires a four-year college level of language, math and reasoning skills.
Work Environment: The job is scheduled during normal credit union business hours. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Requires the ability to work flexible hours. The job requires limited physical effort. The job calls for a high degree of mental concentration to interpret and act upon a wide range of situations.
