Consumer Loan Area Manager directs the consumer loan department of a financial institution or other organization. Oversees the research, development, communication, and implementation of consumer lending policies. Being a Consumer Loan Area Manager analyzes lending data to identify risks, trends, and areas for improvement. Ensures lending volume and profit goals are met. Additionally, Consumer Loan Area Manager develops a productive staff with training and coaching. Monitors compliance with federal and state lending regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Consumer Loan Area Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. The Consumer Loan Underwriter underwrites personal loans, lines-of-credits, credit cards and consumer loans according to loan policies and procedures to ensure quality and reduce delinquencies. They will evaluate, authorize, or recommend approval of consumer loans.
The Consumer Loan Underwriter is expected to provide prompt and quality service to the members of the credit union in the delivery of consumer loans. They must maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all related loan policies and procedures, rules, and regulations for all areas of lending operations. The Consumer Loan Underwriter duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Decision loan applications placed in the loan queue in a timely manner.
Review, analyze, and render credit decisions focusing on consumer lending products including but not limited to personal loans, lines-of-credit, credit cards and consumer loans.
Make credit decisions in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Verify information included on the loan application, as necessary.
Approve or deny loan applications within limits assigned and provide the highest quality of service to our members.
Refer loan applications exceeding established lending authority to the Centralized Lending Manager.
Document loan decision and required stipulations necessary to complete the loan.
Inform the Centralized Lending Manager of any significant problems including any loan application relating to misrepresentation or fraud.
Maintain credit standards, loan policies and procedures, and maintain exceptions within an acceptable tolerance.
Maintain positive, productive relationships with branches and various segments of the lending function
Practice confidentiality and be able to work well under pressure.
Assumes all other duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge of all loan policies, procedures, and underwriting requirements which are normally acquired through 3-5 years of lending and credit review experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Ability to thoroughly comprehend loan policies and be able to communicate these policies in an understandable language to lender personnel.
Experience reviewing personal tax returns.
Ability to render sound credit decisions on own authority.
Ability to work independently while striving to achieve production goals.
Maintains timely and regular attendance to meet members’ needs.
Easily adapts to change and embraces new ideas.
